WordBit German (for English speakers)

❓❔Why do you constantly miss the opportunity to study German?❓❗
There is a way to increase your German proficiency by using the time you didn’t know you had!
It’s just using lock screen. How does this work?
The moment you check your cell phone, your attention is focused on the screen. You are free from what you’ve just been doing and ready to receive new information.
At this very moment, WordBit converts your attention for a little while to studying German.
Everytime you check your phone, you miss out on valuable time and attention. WordBit allows you to grab that.

I initially gave a 1-star review because the app wouldn't stay open and show the word to guess when unlocking. However, after spending 20 minutes looking around in the phone settings I manage to change permissions to make it work. 4 stars because of this mess and because apart from that, application works great !!

I LOVED (past tense) this app right up until they forced you to turn on the notifications and have your notification bar hijacked with more wordbit lessons. Absolutely HATE this app now! It was perfect... Now it's annoying and cumbersome. I hope they fix this before I uninstall it. For now, I'm disabling it. But, in a week or so, I'll uninstall it permanently. Sorry, but you get one chance to ruin a good thing... And, this has ruined it for me and others.

The app does not allow you to continue using, if you do not allow the lock screen permission. And if you do, each time powering on the phone, you have to close the app before unlocking to your phone. This really bothers.

I loved it cannot avoid it,force to learn ,thanks for keeping it in a full sentence usage,I started to note down it.please add some emails, letter writing also in different modules will be useful for everyone who's learning.

Best to learn Vocabulary, but the interruptions are too much. It becomes annoying sometimes, like when you are using GPS, when you are following scores of the matches, or when your alarm is ringing. I don't want to learn vocabulary when I'm in sleep. And there no options to choose our preferences, like don't show the words when you're doing some important work, or you're in a hurry to open your phone. This is really bad.

I very like the app. Finally I found the one that teaches not only vocabulary, but also provides many helpful features, like sentence examples, many options of repetition, pronunciation. These are just few examples. Only the lock screen feature is a little bit annoying, but maybe there is a way to switch it off. Anyways, the app the is my number 1 right now.

This is just the right app for me (A1/A2) level. I have it set up so it opens when my phone unlocks. The vocabulary is A1 but the sample sentence is A2/B1. Just perfect for my needs. It also provides synonyms, antonyms, and verb conjunctions. I haven't quite figured out how to sync across my devices. That is probably simple but I haven't taken the time to figure it out. The app is too good to be free. I am sure a pro version will be offered in the future. I will sign up just for appreciation

Solid dictionary with comprehensive explanations and I love the full verb conjugation, one of the better apps for learning German vocabulary. I'm happy I found it, it helps a lot in day to day speaking, especially in situation when you're missing a specific word. It has 18 categories of words, including phrasal verbs, idioms and irregular verbs. Regarding that lock screen option, it can be turned off in options, if you really want to... Overall I'm extremely satisfied, keep up the good work.

Loved the app at first, but then it started to drive me crazy. When my alarm rings, because of the app the phone freezes. Then you have to battle with your phone while it continues ringing to turn it off. Not the best way to start the day. Also, although there seems to be a timer for when the app should be on, it was very hard to control it. This app would start talking on the train, in my pocket, at meetings etc and recently, I wonder how much I actually get out of it. App drives me crazy now.

Agree with previous reviews. I lke the app except for one thing... You cannot turn it off completely and after a while it gets annoying. Even a once a week turn off would be great. Shame as i really like it but i have to remove it, also like previous reviews it messes with my alarm screen in the morning and you have to tacle with your phone to turn alarm off because of it and it's the last thing you want first thing in morning!!:(

I'd like an option where it eliminates the learned words from each category. In order to understand if I know the word, I have to go through a whole category, mark the words, and then go through category uncertain + unknown. Otherwise, i lose my progress in a category and it starts from the beginning. (3/9/2019): As I see, the app was updated yesterday so the bug I reported was fixed. Thank you! The next time you can acknowledge that the mistake is yours, I've read the Guide twice initially.

It's a great concept for sure. It's just way too intrusive. It forces itself onto your lock screen and intermittent usage times and the best you can do is temporarily disable it for your daily alarm / a whole day. That's simply not good enough. It's just plain irritating to have to reset it everyday. Just allow disable for lock screen. Personally would prefer it if a non-intrusive interface was introduced, such as pop-up notifications with a word and a drop down list to select the right answer.

(edited) I had to first allow it to display over other apps, by turning the passcode in the app on and then off again. Hope that helps others with Android 10. Update: Now I'm using it, would be fantastic (perfect) if it can be programmed not to display over the alarm clock or camera??? In these two situations it's very annoying, but it's so useful I don't want to disable it!

it is indeed a great app, i like how words are classified according to level and place of usage. also i like being able to put them in lists of uncertain and learned and not known. but lock screen drove me crazy. i can't even reply a phone call before passing through that screen and it can't be turned off more than a few hours. really annoying. sadly i will uninstall.

ONE really big issue, the app basicaly forces you to run it. Why isnt there an option to turn it off completly? If you turn it off for the day, the first thing in the morning when you pick up the phone, will be the app starting itself. So i have the alarm set in the morning, and when you pick up the phone to turn off the alarm the app opens. There seems to be a bug, so you cant go back to the alarm any longer and it just keeps on ringing. I had to restart the phone to make it stop. App deleted

It gives sentence examples of new words which is so useful and rare in the apps, you can see all the declinations, sometimes it gives even antonyms or comparative/superlatives of the given words, it has it's own dictionary and it is very well organised; you can learn and scroll through words as you wish. Repetition mode is very useful as well. All in all the best app out there. Trust me. No waste of time. Good job guys.

Great idea, but this is technically speaking by far the worst app I have installed. It keeps popping up too aggressively all the time, regardless what you do. Just today, while I was using navigation on the highway it decided suddenly to minimise it and show itself. TWICE! If you install it, first thing you will see no matter what you want to do with your phone is this app, and that is unacceptable.

Awesome app indeed. Just a few suggestions inorder to improve the learning experience, please add: 1. The English translation with the German word as empty blanks for the user to complete. (Especially this one, since just using slide/Quiz mode does not deepen the word memorization. ) 2. If possible, the different English meanings of each word in every multiple choice question. Thus, not just one meaning of a certain word is shown everytime the aforementioned is questioned at mcq.

The app is great and the idea is amazing but i cannot give it a good review because it's stupid how much of the batery it drains. I need to charge my phone twice as fast since i installed the app and even if i turn it off for that day it still eats from the background. You really have to work on the optimization part. And also one should have a choise when it comes to 'invading' also the lock screen.

Great app. I also like to sit down and write the sentences in a notebook, saying it out loud, and listening to it being said; this helps me with memorization. There are, of course, many possible improvements, but I give a 5 star rating because the improvements are extras, rather than being upgrades to subpar sections of the app. I hope to see WordBit adding new useful features into this app, as well as adding more languages.

Since the update the app has made my phone a pain to use. You need to clear / get rid of the app every time you unlock the phone!!!! Never used to be this way. Was just a great app to use when you wanted. It doesn't give you the option to stop it interfering with your phone. Max you can disable it for 3 hours. Manually each time!!!! Please set this choice functionality to permanent.!!! Eg issue, alarm goes off. You can no longer hit snooze or the stop alarm button (you need to get past this app

The first impression is not so good. The word is given with its meaning. To use it, examples sentences are given. The odd thing is that the examples pronunciation is so fast that you can't make out the correct sounds for each word being used in sentence. This app is good for those who have learnt the fundamentals of German language and want to increase their vocabulary. NOT FOR BEGINNERS!!

Ben. R. Jun 24, 2019

one suggestion. Put option to allow user to decrease the frequency app comes up. i.e. to pop up only the 10th time you open the phone, or other amount. be adjustable. It can be irritating If you have to access your phone quickly let's say 10 times per minute and Wordbit keeps popping up and you are concentrating on something else Great concept overall

The idea of the app in general is rlly awesome, but It's annoying me sometimes with the adds and the quantity of the words that keep providing me at once, one after the other!! I found it fun to learn with wordbit but the app will be much better if it somehow can get the right to control the amount of words that u want to learn perday and less adds ofc.

Min. Jul 21, 2020

Very good, I use WordBit to remind me of grammar. Easy to glance at or study in depth. The spoken text is accurate too. I have noticed when a sentence is spoken that the word 'plus' is spoken out aloud between each word in the sentence. This is new since July20201. May be connected with my android phone settings.

Sen. S. K. Jun 20, 2019

Great idea. Nice app. But the order in which the words are shown makes it worthless. It shows a word and that word never gets repeated. In a single a word have to be shown atleast twice for us to remember it. Examples and definitions are nice.. but still to make an impact, an image would be nice.

Ke. L. Jul 4, 2019

I really like the app and have been using it for a few weeks now. It is a great idea to learn a language using fragmented time. I have a small request. For me I remember better after I learn the words and phrases if I can use them afterwards. So is it possible for you developers to add a small feature in the quiz/slide mode, where you allow users to choose whether they want to see the English and translate to German or the other way around? Thanks!

Joh. S. Nov 11, 2019

Please implement a "cooldown" feature, where new words will be shown only if you turn your screen on after N seconds after turning it off. It is very annoying, when it pops up every time you turn on your screen just to check time or simply fidgeting with it. Also contact address in the description is broken.
