In principle not a bad app and a fun way to get some sort of feeling with Finnish. However, the explanation of word composition and the differentiation between verb and noun is missing. For learning a language this is for me a major downside. It also causes you to make unnecessary errors in the app, as you're not only learning the words, but also have to play a guessing game as for whether the app wants to hear the noun or the verb.
Bought a year's subscription last year and really enjoyed using this app. Have recently renewed but am frustrated now that when I try and go back to previous lessons to consolidate, it will not let me. Surely if you have paid for the course you should be able to study what you like, when you like from the available material. Everyone learns in a different way so let us choose! Apart from that, the addition of Finnish grammar is very helpful and overall a great way to learn a new language.
It's really nice to study new Finnish vocabulary through this app. And the grammar and some new words are integrated smartly into sample sentences. However, the most disappointing thing about the app for me is that it lacks of the review function to brush up on. (Later, I discovered this problem can be solved by using the Worddive webpage version.)
I have been using this app for 3 weeks now, and it makes learning finnish a lot easier that i expected. I already has a very basic grasp on the language but i am already into the 2nd beginner course and still learning easily. I recommend this to anyone who can't find somewhere to learn, or are finding it hard to keep going. Not only does it talk to you in the native tongue, but it also shows you the words on screen and gets you to spell them too. So you progress quicker.
Good app, however there is unfortunately a major flaw in the system that is driving me nuts. There is no indication when you are asked an English word if it's a verb or noun. For example, currently it is only written "help" and you are expected to translate it to the target language. It is not intuitive that it is meant "to help" (->auttaa) and not "the help" (->apua), the show pictures are off little help here. I learned words incorrectly, thinking it was a noun when it really was a verb.
Oh no guys, what have you done... Where is that magic number of permanently learned words?!! That number (visible at most of the times) growing was such a great motivation. Now I can no long brag that I've learned 3208 finnish words. Also new division of the course topics is a little weird. I came across a few mistakes as well, when translation, audio file and picture were not matching. Overall previous version was better (almost perfect!). PS: where is my shell with attitude on the bottom?!
Vocabulary to me is the backbone of learning a new language. WordDive does just that: gives me an opportunity to improve my Swedish with contextual sample phrases. It's like a gaming app that keeps me motivated and eager to reach the next level. I'm enjoying it and probably because I would not remeber all the words learned, I surely would start again from square one. Please keep stocking us with more words. I look forward to exhausting the lexin one day via WordDive!
I am learning Spanish. I tried multiple language learning apps and this one is the best!!! It teaches you a proper vocabulary, gives proper examples, and teaches you words and phrases in three steps, which is great! Definitely recommend this app to everyone!
Best app I've found for learning Finnish. By far. Adapts to your learning, for instance if you struggle learning a specific word it'll come up more often. After living in Finland for a year learning only through ingestion, I find it strengthens my understanding of the language. It sheds light on things I had trouble understanding, and exposes me to new vocabulary. I'm still early into basic Finnish (nearing the end of chapter 1) and it has been worth every cent of the 10€ subscription.
Great app that does the job. It has a flexible topic selection and progression that doesn't tie you down on a rigid path. Example sentences help putting new words in context. Better than most of its competitors. Can use a bit of polishing on the UI side.
First of all, the app is really good. It's not really a 3 star app, minimum 4 star and probably close to 5 star for language learning apps. However, I am super frustrated with the daily limits the app put on the learner. After about 15-20 mins (some days only after 5-10 mins) of learning the app will not let you move any more forward. While I'm paying a very high premium fee as a monthly subscription, this is totally uncalled for. Any fix for removing this daily cap of lessons?
Please fix the application font or the Russian text's code page!! It is impossible to use Russian in app. I see only squares. I believe that it is much easier to learn Finnish from Russian language. Because they have more common than English. For example they both does not required dummy constructions like "it's raining" = "sataa" = "идет дождь" or "There is a tree in the park" = "puistossa on puu" = "в парке (есть) дерево". I really want to give you 5 stars.
WordDive is probably the best language learning app I've ever used. It teaches useful vocabulary and phrases in a fun way that isn't intimidating and learning is set at a very good pace. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in learning a new language. It would help to understand the language more quickly if a few more grammar tips were to be added, but all in all a terrific app.
App is okay for basic vocabularies. But I am pissed up with the way it handles subscription. At some point I have installed the app and just let this be without accepting any subscription or trials. But today I was shocked knowing that it had charged me 9.99 Euros/month since last 4 months without me knowing anything. It should have explicitly make it known that I would be charged. Not sure what I can do now !!
I like this app but two stars are removed for the software bugs... sometimes it hangs inexplicably..and you need to be online to access content. This is annoying if you are learning while traveling on a train to work with poor phone signal. Also making you login every few days even after you've paid for the app is REALLY ANNOYING AND POINTLESS!!! It should just keep you logged in on your phone unless you explicitly choose to log out
Learning experience has been good. It's even better when you do it while simultaneously taking notes. Although, it would be much appreciated if more examples of grammar usage are given and exercises like developing sentences without multiple choices/ options should be there to gage actual progress
If you don't pay for a subscription, you can only test how the app works, not learn much of a language. (You get one free study module, the rest is locked.) The way the app tests your active skills is limited. You are only asked to type singular words (with a limited set of letters given), the rest is mostly 'put the given words in the right order'. Also, the translations of especially sentences can be quite free (not literal). Maybe good to pair with some other learning tool, like flash cards?
Learning a language is fun with this app. The audio helps a lot with remembering pronaunciation. There is a help/feedback feature and questions are usually answered fast. All in all, this app and the corresponding web version is the best language learning service I've used so far.
I have tries Duolingo, Simple Finnish and Speakly. This is a better app for learning Finnish. It contains vocabulary, conversation, listening, grammar tips... All using a kind of SRS learning method. I love it and I can see progress!
This is the best learning languages app ever, I'm really happy with my learning progress. Before I came across this app,it was very difficult for me to understand any Finnish word, but ever since I discovered it, I've been really progressing day by day. I'm so happy and I will definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to study a foreign languages especially Finnish language.
Great app for language learning. I've definitely made progress, and since it's developed in Finland they get the Finnish language correctly. Overall very happy, but could still be improved with different modes for repeating already learnt items.
The best app I've used for learning Swedish. Crystal-clear audio, useful phrases and a nice user interface. It strikes the perfect balance between being challenging and not frustrating. Well worth subscribing to.
I love that my feedback to this company is actually heard and taken into account (unlike another that shall not be named)! I love what they've done lately with adding grammar tips - wonderful! The only thing that might be improved upon is that they do hold you back a little bit, I suppose so that you don't go through the material too fast. But really, shouldn't that be left up to the user? I don't need a nanny! But other than that, I'm really happy with this app!
This is suprisingly good method of language building. I use the Finnish app. I spoke Finnish as a child and I am re learning the language in my early 50s, and this fits in easily with a busy life. With headphones, I can slot in numerous short bursts of language training in a day. If you are quite good at spotting patterns, this really is for you. It isn't perfect though. Some programming is daft. I must have typed the words ostoskeskus and Kahvinkeittimen dozens of times.
The app is perfectly suitable for anyone who wants to start a new language from scratch. Mixture of animations, novel methods of reiewing, and variaty of useful words makes it unique for anyone. Definitely suggest it
Best finnish learning app I have used. The words stick in my mind and it's also helped my pronounciation immensely. Have used for the last 6 months and will continue until I complete the course.
Overall helpful. It just bothers me that translation exercises from English to Finnish are somewhat confusing. Take, for instance, "travel". "Travel" would automatically come to me as a noun, so I would input "matka", which would be incorrect as the software would only recognize "matkustaa". It would be more accurate to input "to travel" instead of just "travel" if it would be translated as "matkustaa".
