The ads in this app hijack your phone. It will open a browser window and/or play store without even touching the ad. Most of the time, this occurs immediately launching the app or a few seconds after. It is annoying and it poses as a security risk. This app should be better since it represents a community of developers.
We are well past into the Era of material design and it pains that the greatest developer site fails to provide its app with material design. Thread and forum wise it does the job but the ui needs a complete redesign, I hope you guys are working on it . and did I forgot to mention it lags and freezes like mad.
Bell gs5 stock 4.4.2 brand spanking new. Application opens. Loads forums whenever it wants. But mostly just hangs on loading the data from the site. When in the forums device list it likes to always kick me back to the all topics tab. Can't use this at all. Could be that I am using ART runtime, but I'm not resetting my device for this application.
This app is great for anyone who likes tinkering with their phone/tablet. It's full of resources that are useful to beginners and to the more advanced users. An issue that sometimes occurs with loading times whilst browsing as a guest can be somewhat frustrating.. but I've yet to encounter that whilst logged into an XDA account.
I like the app OK, it's much better than Tampa talk. However, I find its extremely buggy. For a website flourishing with so much android development I would think it would be a bit more stable. It regularly gets into states where buttons don't do what they're suppose to do and returning from the android resents menu often causes errors.
Loses a lot of its usefulness on Nexus 6 because it forces ad takeover as if you clicked an ad, but there wasn't even a selectable ad on screen. The whole process rips you from the thread you're in too. All for an advertisement I didn't even click. Just a poor experience. Please fix.
This is my go to app for checking xda but the only problem is that I can't log in because there is no sign in with Google plus option. Great app otherwise, especially with the recent ui changes. EDIT 11/18/14: With the new XDA one app being in alpha, after checking it out, there is still no way to sign in using Google plus. I cannot log in and post. If this app won't get updated to include that feature, please make sure the new one does. It honestly ruins the app for me.
No way to search for forums forcing you to scroll through thousands of different forms to find the one you want. No way to go back to the main forum when you're looking at a post without using the back button. Also recently when I launch the app it opens a pop up spam site in my browser
For an official app to the premier android coding site... You would think that it wouldn't constantly throw 'failed to connect' errors. It's almost not even worth using anymore. Have to refresh repeatedly before it stops erroring and finally shows new posts. Then have to clear from recents to get rid of the toast spam.
For an app thats made for the community that creates such amazing mods this app is leaves much to be desired. its slow to start up and visually its still stuck in the past. Really needs to be updated and the premium version is basically a waste of time unless you just want to donate. Most times I just end of back on the site with my computer.
Their site is so broken on any mobile browser that I am forced to install this. As much as I love XDA, this makes me bitter and angry and XDA should be ashamed of themselves. It feels incredibly intentional, as it seems impossible that such talented coders would have one of the most unusable mobile sites around. Just awful.
It just keep lagging and shows always 'unfortunately xda free has stopped'. Even this is my third phone and it keep doing that. Works perfectly upto first day of installation. I reported several times but nothing has been changed until now. This app seriously irritates. Time waste. This was not expected from such an developer's app.
There isn't a single day where this app isn't displaying some sort of issue. A while back it used to force close a lot ALONG with ALWAYS for some reason "Failed to connect to forum".. Honestly if it weren't for the fact that these forums have gems all over the place this app would be Uninstall'd and black listed.. just constant issues.. since forever. please fix.
I like using the xda app over using tapatalk. The xda app just takes me right to xda for the stuff I am looking for. It is not as powerful as using the desktop/browser, but works fine for mobile. UPDATE: The app also has the advantage of not having way too many ads in your face as the desktop site.
However, ads are extremely aggressive. Nearly every time the app changes pages it launches an ad that directly opens the play store and tries to get you to download some stupid freemium games. Not to mention that there is also a banner ad on every page.
This app works great to browse the XDA Forums. The only issue I have had on both a Galaxy Nexus and LG G3 is that when clicking on certain carrier-specific sub-threads it redirects me back to the home screen of the app. If I clear the defaults on my browser and this app I can launch those threads in the browser without issue. Other than that, this app is great!
I couldn't post because I didn't have permission in that area. --original-- This is the problem: when viewing a thread, there are two blank buttons which I assume are supposed to be reply and post. When I try to make to press on them, the app just crashes. I would love a fix. This is an Xperia Z1, upon which the problems are occurring.
App is pretty buggy opens up blank threads a lot of times and has slow load times. Smh would have expected more for a site that's home to so many developers. Slow updates, I would have expected this to be updated to material design by now but nothing.
4 stars. Love the app for browsing my favorite threads quickly. But if my search area isn't a favorite I need to scroll to find my phone instead of just searching like the website. Also when I press the back button to check something or try a solution he app doesn't open whee I left off. Back to the home screen to find my phone again. Other then that. Great app
Hands down best stop for both devs and just people who like to root. Great information and great help as well when in need of assistance . especially after soft bricking your phone (not like I've ever done that lol OK maybe once or twice).
keeps getting "failed to connect to forum". Most times the forums will not show up, but once in a while it does (while still displaying that message). In the end, I just resort to using the web based version since this version is so unreliable.
Used to be OK, now it hangs when changing forums and constantly sends me to the play store to download some other app or game. A mobile browser is much more efficient and I don't get hijacked back to the play store. What a shame it has come to this.
XDA is a huge site covering a very complex subject made worse by a highly undisciplined and fragmented industry and I've no doubt it would be a significant undertaking to keep it all properly organised but as things stand its way too hard to find what you want. The main problem is multiple parallel overlapping forums - there may be half a dozen of these all supposedly covering development work on the same phone model. These forums need to be more hierarchical and we need better search and navigation tools.
Very slow to populate forum, duplicate threads, threads are not in alphabetical or any order for devices listed. Additionally this forum seems to be nothing more now than a place for chat buddies to hang out. Many seeking help post Qs but get no reply.
Paid for the premium one but this it's better, so have gone back to it. For devs their apps are crap. BTW you are using this and are sick of being hijacked you should know what adaway it's.never seen an ad.I've paid for the premium version do feel justified doing this as that version is crap.
5 stars, but I might downgrade this rating because there are a few things that I need for this app to be useful. Perhaps I haven't found them yet, perhaps they don't exist in the app yet. 1. Can't search within a thread (difficult to find posts relating to "wifi"/"*search term*" in a thread with 4,000 posts) 2. Can't move throughout forum (if Google takes me to a thread, I'm stuck in it and can't move up the forum hierarchy). I would appreciate a response from the app developers.
Better than using the website on your mobile. However can get very sluggish viewing threads with large posts, and navigating to next page is hit and miss. A way to add categories to favourites would be good, as atm scrolling through hundreds or trying to use the search to find the one you want gets rather annoying.
