XG Mobile Backgammon

It's a good app in some respects, but you need extreme patience. The app is RIGGED to win. It's just not possible for the app to randomly getting the perfect roll of the dice as often as it does. It's a great tool to learn the game, to practice and to fill time. Just don't get disheartened when it wins too often. Also, when in training mode if you think the suggested move is wrong, you will win more often if you take the move you think best.

The programme plays a mean game of backgammon and the training features are excellent.(Those who believe the programme cheats should study the game more. ) Yet unfortunately I cannot really recommend it. It keeps crashing and regularly refuses to load the graphics. Worst of all, when I try to install it on a 2nd device, it asks me to pay for it again. That's just not acceptable.

Can be a bit buggy and crashy - which used to drive me mad until someone told me you must have an internet connection when using XG. If you do it behaves itself most of the time and the upside is you have a Grandmaster strength opponent in the palm of your hands. Set the error threshold level low and play against the computer - it will then point out your errors and you can struggle to find the best move. A great way to improve your game. Be improved by an online option to play other humans.

Absolutely great app to improve your bg game. The tutor mode is excellent. I'm just worried about future support, last update is from 2017. App crashes occasionally, but luckily it remembers the positions when you open it again / update after 1000+ games: lowered my rating due to non-random dice. I'll get double 6's the first time I'm on the bar. Maybe statistically I don't get more double 6's than the AI, but I sure can predict them, which tells me the dice are not really random.

A bit buggy. No new updates for current OS Not sure of support for full version, but am not inclined to pay to find out. Still my go to game when I have a few minutes to kill or during commercials. Advice appears off in a few cases (Programming may give too much weight to pip count in some plays.) Computer has some uncanny dice rolls..... still more enjoyable than the 5 other apps I tried.

Best backgammon game on Android and cheap as chips (or a posh beer :) . Has tutor mode, a good AI , good interface, remembers last position. Negative: Memory/Resources issues, on my phone it has to be (almost) the only app running + I have to start the app holding the phone vertically...often a few times. Still a happy customer.

Most excellent backgammon game! Well well well, with the latest update to Android version 12, this app is working again! Super strong. I was sick that I had to drop it for a long time because it simply crashed on Android 11, but with Android 12 it's as good as ever.

The app doesn't launch anymore, more precisely it crashes instantaneously, on recent versions of Android it seems. I am unable to open XG anymore. Any help would be much welcomed. I'm on a Galaxy S21 Ultra with the latest available Android version on the device (it was already not working since about 6 months, incl on previous device).

The app wouldn't open on Android 11 and the developer never bothered to fix it. Thankfully it was no longer an issue with Android 12. In my opinion, this app is better than Backgammon NJ in most ways, but it's frustrating that I couldn't use it for a whole year.

In most ways this app is fantastic. It's the mobile version of some powerful software that serious backgammon players use. If you use the tutor mode at the highest level (you have to get the premium version for that) it's a bit like being taught by a backgammon master., albeit one that teaches by yelling out "huge blunder" every time you, well, make a huge blunder. The problem? The app regularly CRASHES, sometimes crashing my tablet in the process. Fix this and it's an easy 5 stars.

When it works it is good but I cannot give a good rating to an app that crashes so frequently. It is not just that that app crashes and closes but it crashes my phone or tablet as well. (edit) Years later and somehow this developer is still pushing out a paid version of this app which is broken and unplayable.

If you have a bad game it calls you a Beginner or a Casual player, rather than just a numeric rating. I've seen it call really strong players Beginners. Or it calls you World class because you've been stuck on the bar most of the game!! Ironically in real life you often double harder against stronger players, which XG penalises you for. I won't pay for this app until it gives me an option to just have numeric ratings, rather than the obnoxious classifications currently used

I wanted to love this game because finally an AI that's a good match, and the tips feature is great for expert training but it all goes down the 🚽 when you learn the dice roll is rigged in favor of the AI especially in expert and especially when you double or are in a very advanced position against it. I guess expert just means dice rig expert. This just kills the fun.

Like many others. I spent the $10 on this game, was hoping it was fairer than others. Apparently not so. I downgraded its skill from professional to expert to advanced before I was able to win at least one game. But even at this level, any time I have an open point, it comes up with the full to hit it. Every single time. Which leads to an inevitable loss. What a waste of money.

Does not work on Android 11 ! The app used to work perfectly on my Pixel 2XL but beware, today I updated my phone to Android 11 and now the app crashes immediately on opening. (Will update this review if and when I get response from developer.) UPDATE: Since update to Android 12 on my Pixel 5 the app now works again ! Weird ! However, there is a glitch in that when auto-rotate is switched off the screen layout does not always initiate correctly.

This game is better than a lot of the backgammon the apps, but still has way too many situations where the computer rolls of the dice are way out of line with probability. Too many times it gets a miraculous throw to get the only dice count that works, or gets a series of doubles when bearing off. It also seems like the higher the doubling Cube, the more likely for amazing rolls by the computer.

With latest Android update XG Mobile will not open. After clicking it it goes to landing page for a second then immediately closes/crashes. I have emailed the developer and they have not bothered to even respond or acknowledge the problem. Don't bother downloading this app until this issue is fixed.

A lot of live players have recommended xBg but many of the reviews say it's buggy and crashes a lot. It crashed in the first minute of my using it. A lot of the features it claims to have are to be found in other quality BG apps, so I uninstalled it. Pretty poor, really

Really well made app and known to be the best engine in the world. . . Sadly crashes every other game on my Huawei Honor9. Starting the app again resumes the game at the correct position every time though, so I can live with it. . . Edit 1 year later: Crashes on my Nokia 5.4 all the time as well (every other game) but still doesn't really matter as already described. . . Edit 2: upgraded to android 11 and now it won't start at all anymore. Booo!

I've played this app for over a year. i have the screenshots of dice stats, all over the 2000 roll standard, that clearly show a significant advantage for the host. Entering from the bar, avg PIPS in race, doubles, etc. all heavily weighted for the host. Pay attention to exposed chips on the opening move. likely to be sent to the bar. Pay attention to the hosts roll after doubling. Uncanny how great they generally are. Random - my rear end. simply no longer fun or challenging any longer.

App is constantly crashing. Every other dice roll... Extremely frustrating! Would like to play properley as have heard many good things about XG, always talked about on the Backgammon circuit. Please fix the bugs and i'll happily change my rating.

3 thoughts:1.This app is great for pointing out your wrong moves and showing you the correct moves.It is the only app that I have found that corrects you in real time,so that piece of the app is terrific.2.There is a pattern to how the computer plays, you can consistently beat the Beginner level computer by hitting as much as possible and covering the home row spaces,so your bad habits get rewarded.3.The computer clearly cheats by getting the rolls it needs,no way it is that lucky all the time.

Screen freezes often, otherwise excellent. Can close app midway through a match and when open again resumes from where you left. As nice as pc version. Shame about screen freezes. Run on my Android 6 phone.

No problems on my phone. Great for improving your game. In tutor mode tells you when you go wrong, and can also give you suggestions of the best move. Also gives you a ranking. Really nice!
