XHWM-95.3 FM

XEWM-XHWM is the radio station that gave rise to Grupo Suprema Radio. Almost 50 years ago, on the afternoon of Monday, July 7, 1969, to be precise, they filled the Jovel Valley with the first hertz waves emitted by the XEWM in the 640 KHz of the Modulated Amplitude band. In those moments with only 250 watts of power, enough to cover with quality the small and diaphanous valley in it is settled this ancient San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

In those days the Mexican radioelectric spectrum was very clean, very few radio stations were present in the tuners of our homes. At night it was time to listen to radio with acceptable clarity, stations in the center of the country such as XEW, XEB or XEQ, which brought us music, programs and well-timed voices and very well accepted by the audience of these directions. It was to recognize in those voices the purity of diction and elegance in the use of our language.

In the timeline, the birth of WM was framed between two major world events: the antenna began to rise on October 12, 1968, just at the time that the president of the republic inaugurated, in Mexico City, the nineteenth Olympic Games and the second event was that when the world waited with uneasiness the first moon landing of a human, Apollo XI would touch the lunar surface exactly two weeks after WM released its first notes on the air. For that occasion, XEWM made its first international link, this time with the VOA (Voice Of America) to bring our people the ins and outs of the epic moon landing. What better augury than this frame of reference in time.
Christmas Eve of the year 2000 gave WM to its first sister, the XHCRI, in the 91.5 megahertz of the Frequency Modulated band. XHCRI thus became the first FM radio station in our city. Along with her long-time sister XEWM in the AM band, the XHCRI in the FM band, they have had the honor of being the pioneers of radio in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. These events consolidated the idea of the creation of Grupo Suprema Radio, with the firm intention of continuing to make a difference in radio.
46 years away, if we see in the depths of time, WM is warmly wrapped in history. A story of successes and failures, yes; but of commitment to the immediate society, of solidarity with our community, of loyalty with radio listeners, of support for trade, of inspiration for new generations, simply a genuine history of communication. WM feels proud not only of the service it provides to San Cristobal society and its surroundings, but of the quality of its listeners and advertisers.
The WM has been and will continue to be the voice of the Coletos, a conciliatory and penetrating voice not only here but in the whole world, today we are the voice with more presence on the radio. The memories of half a century are already recorded in many places and attest to the great participation that WM has had in them. The impact has been in all areas of our society, we have grown along with it. This is how technological development brought us to automated telephony, television, home video, high fidelity audio, mobile telephony and, of course, the Internet. What else will come? Whatever, the challenges have been our best incentive, we will always take them with pleasure because we have the honor of being the kind image of sound.
The technological changes demand evolution in the old radioelectric communication spaces, so XEWM had to migrate to XHWM, in 2011 it closed a cycle and stopped transmitting in Amplitude Modulated by 640 kilohertz and now dresses the Frequency Modulated from 95.3 megahertz . In Mexico, the radio spectrum occupied by the MA will be used for other communication services, so that little by little all the AM stations in the country will also have to migrate.
