My only complaint is that recently the explainxkcd link seems to have broken and no longer automatically opens the page, though it still contains a button to open it in the browser. This issue isn't enough for me to take a star of though. The app lets you download comics for offline viewing and has a button to view each comic's title text. You can view the previous, first, next, and most recent comics, or choose one at random. You can also search comics and the app is very good at finding comics with even vague search terms. I highly recommend it for anyone with even a passing interest in xkcd.
I have been using this app thrice per week since at least 2014 (but maybe 2012) and I love it. Lately, though, the lack of updates/attention has started to catch up with it. It has not updated in at least a week and the Explain XKCD link no longer works. I wish that it would receive just a little TLC in order to repair these slight issues. I want to keep using the app. I really, really do.
I used to love this app, but it hasn't been updated in two+ years. Recently, Android 10 popped up an error stating the app may not work properly, as it was made for an older version of Android. So, time to uninstall. Thanks for years of reasonable reliability, Browser for xkcd. You'll be missed.
Has only basic functionality but is definitely still one of my go-to apps. Four stars only because the explainxkcd link is broken and only displays a 301 HTTP response. You can still click through to open the link in a browser, but it no longer opens in-app.
The best xkcd viewer hands down. It lets you download both xkcd and What If? Articles for offline use, which I love. It's really cool to be able to keep an archive of every xkcd and What If? article on my tablet for whenever I get bored. I've been using this app since it first came out and I think it needs an update badly, j have been getting many http errors and I fear this app will soon become defunct which would be an absolute tragedy.
it works and has no major issues, but it ha stopped updating recently. also, the alt text formatting gets garbled, the explainxkcd link doesn't work, and it seems unnecessary to have a second app icon for the what if page that isn't being added to anymore.
It used to be by far the best way to access these brilliant comics, but it seems to be in disrepair. I uninstalled it today because it seems that it now fails to update new comics, which is the final thing on top of one or two other slightly broken features that makes this app no longer worth it for me. :( Still deserves 3 stars because what it does have is still nice.
Great app, I love XKCD, but recently the accompanying "WhatIf?" feature has been a bit broken. Some of the comics just don't load, and nothing I've found can make them. Not a big bug, but I used to be able to read them.
Me too - loved this app but it stopped loading new comics after "Orion". Worked for 4 years without an update, that's impressive! Hoping for a fix to cover the next 4 years... ;-) Update Feb 27: it works again! Without downloading any updates!?!?
Mostly amazing! But the Explain Xkcd integration is broken :( Edit to add: it looks like it's not supported by longer .last update was nearly 2 years ago. Searching for something else now
Great app, use it all the time, love that you can save comics and articles for reading later! As some other posters have been saying though, the explain xkcd link has been giving a http status error 301 for a while - otherwise great work!
Not updated for some time. The link to explainxkcd does not really work anymore, but it can be opened in a browser, so that doesn't matter. Has all features I need.
love the app, but recently whenever I try to go to the "Explain xkcd" link, it will give "http error 301" rather than the link like it used to. Please fix that! I will change my rating to 5 stars because that's the only issue I've had with this!
Solid ad-free app. The link to Explain XKCD hasn't worked in a while now, unfortunately, but it has otherwise worked without an issue.
Need to be able to disable the random comic function. It's quite hazardous when reading in chronological order.
Very good xkcd app, have been using it for years. Right now the explain xkcd feature gives a 301 error. Once that's fixed 5 stars.
Great! Does all you would expect, and you can download all the comics. No ads and you get the tooltips too
Best xkcd reader I've found and really well done. Unfortunately the i-button's explain links stopped working, but still awesome app!
The only thing that is broken now is the link to explainxkcd. Since they changed to https there is a 301 http error. Once that is fixed I'll change to 5 stars.
Don't install extra apps without asking. Uninstalled immediately after noticing it installed an app called "What If". Maybe it's on me for not paying more attention, but it still seems shady.
Great app, but the comics appear in bluetooth share for some reason as a block of like 4000 images than need to be scrolled through
Great app. No ads. Would get 5 stars but integration with explainxkcd is broken, showing error 301 (not handling a redirect?)
The app seems to have broken on February 10th and isn't displaying any of the comics published since then.
great app. needs to be updated to reflect the new xkcd explained URL or at the very least updated to follow a 301 redirect.
Not maintained: HTTP errors 301 should be easy to fix (simple redirection), but it seems that the developer doesn't bother...
App hasn't updated to the last few comics, appears to be broken and no longer supported.
Needs updating, doesn't work with the latest version of Android it seems
Very helpful app, although since Project Orion, it doesn't realize that new comics came out, even after oressing download all :/
Best app there was.. Sad to see it no longer receiving updates as the "explain xkcd" link is broken..
It is lightweight and unobtrusive. It doesn't request any crazy permissions, send* unwanted notifications, or have any ads. It just does exactly what you want it to do -- load the comics -- and a little bit more when requested, like letting you save favorites. The feature to view explain xkcd has been broken for a while, but all you have to do is click the external link button and you can still see it. It's probably the best app on my phone for its sheer simplicity.
