The app itself looks very promising, however I can't log in to my account. The login page shows up for a brief moment then it says that I don't have an internet connection. Tapping the option to get help just redirects me to the mobile twitch website. Truly disappointing. EDIT: To those of you having an issue, it is your adblocker. After whitelisting the app, everything is perfect.
Overall, great app! I have been looking for offline downloading support for ages. Finally found this app and it works perfectly. DEVELOPERS: Please add support for variable playback speed. I would like to be able to watch VOD's at 1.25x at least. EDIT: Developers, the past two days I've been using the app, it starts at the beginning of the VOD. It keeps forgetting where I left off. :(
It's amazing. Finally I can see and use all the BTTV emotes but I would love to customize settings of my own like you can do on PC for BTTV. There are some bugs like when you leave full-screen, the screen kind of disappears below on the right hand side and there's only a little part of the screen showing which you can click to bring it up. Also I would love to see some additional features like seeing who subscribed or gifted subs and stuff like that in the chat as well. All 'n all, it's good.
I really enjoy the app. It runs so much smoother than the Twitch app. The one thing I dislike is that it doesn't seem to remember where you are in a livestream. For example, if I'm watching an eleven hour VOD and I watch three hours of it, I have to remember the exact timestamp or else I can't find my place again. The app would be absolutely perfect if it included that.
I think this app is great. But I'm having problems with it. I cannot watch any streams since the last few days. I thought it was a problem with my connection, but it just not work. It shows a message "The stream has ended" for every stream. Clips and VODs work fine though. I also think this app would benefit itself if it included other features that other third party apps already include.
This app has potential but has some small problems that the developer needs to fix. Sometimes when I want to watch a live stream I will just get an error that says "Error occurred while loading stream" and no streams will work. These errors occur fairly frequently. When the app does work it's very good and very smooth. It's almost better than the Twitch Android app.
Great app so far, just thought I'd list some problems I have that keep it from being 5 stars rather than raving about it. -- VOD chat does not show any channel added BTTV emotes or gif emotes, with no ability to add a video comment. - No in app option to change font size. - When viewing in portrait mode, the player cuts off the sides of the video. - Occasional crashes when going to the menu tab. -- Other than the things I've mentioned, it's a really great app and an almost perfect alternative :)
All around great app. Will continue to use over the twitch app. My only problem is that there is a about a 3-5 second delay from from the stream to the chat. For example, you can see all the reactions to a funny moment in chat 3-5 seconds before it happens the video feed. This happens even on source quality. The regular twitch app doesn't have that. Any way to fix that?
Great design, but some functions need some work. I noticed that when attempting to click the player, or maximize it again, it often registers as the user dragging it instead. This makes it hard to actually maximize it or try to change quality. Consider adding more customizing to the app, such as configuring how many streams per column. Other than these suggestions, this is a great twitch client.
The recent issues with streams not loading is due to repeated changes at Twitch's end, it's not an issue caused by the app per se. The reason for these Twitch changes isn't known, be it trying to destabilize third party tools, carelessly fighting viewbots or something else. Anyways, the app is just fantastic, far smoother than the official app. The picture-in-picture mode works great, and of course there's the option to skip even the embedded ads
I don't necessarily mind the ads. I get it. BUT, the app seems to have an issue where the streams keep erroring out and re-opening. Every time it does this, it replays the ad. Sometimes the chat doesn't load in and only the stream plays. If you close and re-open that stream it usually works, but, again, the ad plays EVERY time you open a a stream. Annoying bugs, but fixable. Otherwise it works great.
Includes BTTV emotes and Ad block. Simple and does what it says and nothing more. Very underated, better than all other 3rd party twitch players apps. Lowered my rating because I tend to use it much less. This is because the app tends to become extremely slow to the point where all touch response takes up to 2 extra seconds. This is especially annoying when scrolling or typing a message.(this seems to be fixed! Possibly a hardware issue)
Brilliant little app. Can download videos no issues with a choice of resolutions for those with less space on the phones. Whilst at first I hoped it would download the video so I could watch on mx player for example it plays via the app but the player has a pop out window which is great. You can also choose the times so if you know that the first hour will be just people waffling on you can choose to skip that bit and download after the first hour.
Good software, but missing some basic features like a list of your followed channels and followed categories. There's no resume feature if you stop watching a VOD and then continue it later. VOD just starts from the beginning again. You also can't control your Twitch account settings or subscribe to channels at all. But still the app works well and I prefer this to the official Twitch app when watching streams. If the missing features are added, 5 star rating is guaranteed.
After testing a whole bunch of twitch client alternatives, I have found Xtra to be the best by a long shot, primarily because it works flawlessly with the current twitch ads and third-party restrictions (all the others show those purple disclaimers randomly) and secondly because the interface is fast and very effective. The black theme is perfect. It works, and it's not obtrusive or bloated. I would happily pay for a premium version with more interface customization options, and filters. Cheers
'm very impressed that someone finally made an app to replace T-Chat. The app works very well, but it's just missing a few very important things like an emote menu to select all available emotes from, a sleep timer that will turn off the stream after a set time, proper emote scaling (some emotes appear stretched out or compressed), a pop-up window, and a true dark mode for AMOLED screens. Other than that, the app works great! ✱✱✱EDIT: The dev very kindly replied and updated the app with some of the things I talked about in this post. It's amazing how quickly he/she is moving along with the development of Xtra.
After trying all the twitch apps I've got to say this is the best one by far. Chat is intuitive and the recent emotes tab is great. The only feedback I have is there is still a bit of a stream delay, maybe like 4 or 5 seconds whereas I normally get around 1 or 2 second delay. I also wish the recent emotes tab would exclude emotes that aren't available in the current channel. Otherwise it's great!
A step up from the official twitch app. Only suggestion I can give is that when you minimise the stream to browse through the app you should be allowed to move the mini video box around! Right now for me it's stuck in the bottom right and blocking a bit of the UI. Not really a big issue though, and I still really like the app overall with it's clean look and bttv emote support. Edit can you make so when I press the back button the mini player appears? Right now only audio plays
-UI is questionable, but easy to adapt to & live with. -If you 'pause' a download for more than 5 minutes, it can sometimes bug out & freeze. Causing you to restart the download from the start -You CANNOT save your downloads in a seperate file on your phone/mSD. You can only watch them inside the app. BUT, the app/downloads work offline. (Might can pull them from the folders of the app, but I haven't tried.) Solid app, but would love to save my downloads to be able to move to my PC, PS4, etc.
This is the best Twitch app I've found so far. It has customizable quick seek, VOD chat, custom and animated emotes, you even can download a certain interval if you need. One suggestion though, quick seek buttons are way far from center, maybe add two different positions for buttons, one old and other closer to center (for ones who likes this as it is), adding more positions can be tricky. Edit: oh also the ability to play from where you left off would be nice, thank you!
Great and simple app, a bit lacking in features as of this review though. Would it be possible to add options for showing followed games in your follow tab, as well as background playback (not picture in picture, but just audio, when screen is off too)? I'd pay money for the app if it had those capabilities! Everything else works flawlessly. edit: Thanks for the response, I'll look forward to it!
A great alternative to the Twitch app with many fantastic features and customization options. The only problem is the ads which are extremely repetitive and are seen almost every time you begin to watch a stream. I personally don't despise the ads and believe that the other features make up for this issue.
There are 2 things keeping me from using it all the time. 1. With pop out mode on the background app minimizes and doesnt let me select it to use split screen (Samsung feature). It works with pop out turned off. Twitch app works. 2. When in popout mode you can't place the screen anywhere you want and resize it or put it in the corners of the screen, it avoids them.) I find myself using the actual Twitch app when out/driving and Xtra when home. I'll donate $10.00 if you fix those. Thank you. 4.4☆
Wonderful app for downloading twitch vods. There are a few glitches though which can be annoying. First, the screen resolution does not scale properly, so I can't see part of the screen (I believe it was fine until the latest update). The second issue is that sometimes the videos will play in the background, but they won't let you reopen the app. This requires force closing to fix.
