You are Hope

#1 Role playing game on AppStore in 23 countries so far!

"You are Hope" is based on a PC game made by Jason Rohrer.
This app is not from him though, and he is not at all involved in making it.
Our game and online world are separate from his, and contain changes and exclusive extra contents which we have made ourselves.

One important thing you do in this game is to name your children (who are also players). "You are Hope" is what a mother would say when she gives the name 'Hope' to her baby.

Your goal is to rebuild civilization from scratch, together with other players and across countless generations.

You are born either as a baby to one of the other players, or as a young woman if no suitable mother is found. Every minute of real time is one year in the game and your maximum age is 60 years. A single life is limited, but the things you make during your lifetime are left for your children and grandchildren once you are gone. Try to make life a little bit easier for those who come after you, so your family line will have a chance to prosper for generations to come.

Sometimes you will spawn alone in the wilderness. You need to build a fire to stay warm and trap rabbits to get meat and furs for clothes. A sharp stone may be your best friend in the beginning. Try to find a good spot to settle and grow some food, because other players may soon arrive as your children, and will need to be taken care of until they are grown enough to help you.

Sometimes you will be born in a sprawling city, with farmers, cooks, blacksmiths, shepherds and hunters. There will be clothes and equipment ready for you, prepared by players who may be your grandparents or distant relatives. Maybe you will gather some friends and set out to start a settlement of your own, maybe you will inherit a farm job from your uncle, or maybe you will slay bears and wolves. The choices are endless, but remember: unless you leave the world better after you have lived than when you arrived, you have not really achieved anything.

Every life you play will put you in contact with new players. Some are more experienced than you, some are less. Some will teach you and some will learn from you. Some may even be disruptive to the civilization you are building, and will need to be dealt with accordingly. It will be up to you and your fellow players to shape the world for a brief moment in time, before the following generations take over.

After your game life is over, you can look at your family tree and see how your descendants are doing. You can take pride in each of your younger relatives who survives into adulthood and in each new generation that follows you, knowing that you helped make it happen.

In the 1.7.0 release we added the Family Ties IAP, which adds observer mode and family chronicles. It is completely optional and is not required to play the game.

Cute game. Could do without the idle baby time in my opinion. Would rate higher but the paid private instances are a complete waste of money. Couldn't tell you if it's a latency issue or if the instances are simply not powerful enough but it makes for a horrid experience. Take 20 steps forward, get beamed back, stay stuck for 30 seconds, die, rinse, repeat.

Great game! Only issue I've had is a bug on the initial start/home screen loading, I get a black connecting to server screen, after the dual decade logo, before even selecting a server and it doesn't ever load. Easy to fix - usually restarting the app works, but not sure if this has been reported before.

I really love this game, it's so fun learning how to make different things while struggling not to starved, good job XD, and also, i wish we can stack corn, rabbits, eggs, charcoal etc. like how we stack carrots, firewoods and ores that would be REALLY good and won't take a lot of space, thank you for this fun game, its really worth it.

Great game! Worth every penny :) You'll get used to the controls after awhile. Very recommend, wish more people play this game!

The game itself is a fun concept, but the crafting system can be very unforgiving, especially considering how short of a time you have in game. From the perspective of someone who played it completely blind, it'd probably take three or more whole 'lifetimes' to just figure out how to craft an axe in under an hour, and that's leaving out the consistent upkeep ( i.e: switching between an adobe FORGE and an OVEN just to make kindling into charcoal, etc.) Lovely game, but not beginner friendly

Good game. Pretty much exactly how the OG game is... However. The book. It's extremely difficult to navigate and doesn't make sense at all. Making it really difficult to manage. I would definitely review an easier building instruction method. That would improve the game massively. Please take this into consideration. Apart from that great game. I would play it more if it wasn't so difficult when it comes to the book and the building institutions. Beautiful graphics though.

The community is awesome, most are extremely friendly. The game is hard, and I mean really hard. And it takes a lot of time to learn, it's extremely rewarding though when you start making progress. Definitely helpful to look up guides, but if you don't there is an in game crafting menu that will help you along the way. Even better if you're born into a good family with experienced players. Worth the money, and worth getting the expansion to watch over your children, grandchildren, and beyond.

Fun game. It does take some time to learn the game and the crafting. Solo server would be best for this. To the devs, I do hope you guys can make the crafted items more strong or atleast be fixable. Crafted items are too easy to break yet difficult/complicated to make. Its quite unfair and illogical. Atleast leave some collectible material. E.g we shld be able to collect the stone from the broken wooden tools. Also, pls make the game be able to rotate to the other landscape position. Thank you.

Fun, and collaborative game, takes a little getting the hang of it, but that's part of the fun.

Great Port of the PC original. Almost like this better.

Really fun, but controls are a little tricky to manage. Recommend for everyone. I just wish there were more "tutorial" play by yourself servers for new players to try out. The only one that was a good single player was the fire tutorial becuase the side tells you how to actually make the fire whereas the other tutorials you have to figure it out on your own. Book isn't too helpful for new players.

Great game but the controls are bad. It takes time to unhand tools or plants. You shld make like a joystick type of control with arrows up down left right so it's easier to move around and icons like pick and drop. And also you shld make a map on the tool bar. I hope you improve this game. It has potential. I like it,i it's just the controls I have a problem with.

I have to say I am impressed that this app is based on the pc game. It is almost identical but with their own little twist. Also if you want to learn new things they have servers just for that. (farming, steel tools, and basics) I had a rough time with the learning curve on pc. My only problem is there isn't enough players but hopeful that this game gets more of a following.

Great take on a great game, one major problem. The last update destroyed the hand drawn aesthetic which is one of the games greatest strengths and quirks. I would happily 5 star and was set to do so until the latest update. If you're going to make unique changes can i recommend a solo mode where you spawn as an eve close to your previous eves body upon respawning. People could explore the tech tree in solitude without risk of being griefed. Thank you for your time.

I hate the swiping controls. Absolutely loathe them. I have been swiping every tiny object for the past hour. You LITERALLY HAVE TO SWIPE TINY THINGS AND ALL IT DOES IS CLICK ON THE GROUND FIRST BECAUSE MY FINGERS AREN'T THE SIZE OF PENCIL TIPS!! I want an alternative way FROM THE START OF THE GAME to put on stuff, gather stuff, and the like. Add a menu for all I care, but get rid of swiping, or give the option for alternative controls!

This can be a great investment for those who want to learn how to play 1 hour 1 life on a budget, those that want to play as an eve, or like the starting technology. Controls can be annoying if you have a backpack sometimes. The crafting log is fantastic. A good take on a mobile version.

Gonna give more star if the server isnt lagging up..overall it is a very good game

Exactly as described. I hope the original dev. Is getting his end of this. I have seen conflicting stuff on that. The game IS OHOL. I wonder if it will be updated similarly to what the original has now. I love it on my Samsung tablet. I'm having a blast. Thanks for the tutorials & Beginner gameplay. I also like being able to unlock certain things. That was a surprise to find little challenges. Great game!

The game is fun. But I can't seem to pick up basket properly when playing in horizontal mode. Need to play in vertical otherwise I'll spend a few minutes just trying to pick it up..

Honestly a really good port. Really just needs more players. The advanced server is never populated. The controls are a little hard to get used to but they are true to the original game.

I absolutely love this game! I've been playing it for 2 years and it is addicting. This game is definitely a learning curve, But once you get used to the controls, it's second nature. My favorite part of this game that you have a family, a grandmother, a mom, brothers and sisters All trying to survive and make a mega village. This game is pretty difficult your hunger goes down so fast, it's like Minecraft 30× times harder But in my opinion that's what makes it so fun. Hope you enjoyed as much as

Need more servers, an ociana server would be nice too

Love this game sooo much. Must work together to survive and progress thru technology. Would be 5 stars but hey, theres always room for improvement. Would like to see some more time savers for breeding sheep such as being able to use slices of bread instead of the whole loaf. Maybe also a way to move thru recipes a bit easier to see the end result of what ypur item could be used for? Merely suggestions :3 i willx continue playing regardless haha. Kudos for the adaptation! Well done!

This game is absolutely amazing, transfers very nicely onto the phone. The only problem is that there arnt a lot of people playing it so it's very hard to keep a society going. The devs if u could can u plz try send out advertisements on YouTube or something like that to bring more new players to the game, because I feel like the interactions with other people are one of the big things in this game too

Tyr. M. Nov 5, 2020

This is a difficult game with steep learning curve. Many recipes and you only live for up to 60 minutes. There are bugs, bears, and wolf's that can kill. One tech contains many of the recipes you'll need. Dont expect a town to survive long unless you can compost sheep poop by feeding baby sheep bowl of berries and carrots, then get a shovel add that to wet composting pile. The tutorial levels should be free so new people can even decide if they like the game enough to purchase

ang. o. Dec 25, 2021

The controls are awful. The swipes you have to do are too similar so you end up doing the wrong thing over and over again. The game also takes a while to respond to your touch at certain times which is frustrating because you have to do a series of actions to build a fire quickly, and if you don't do it perfectly you'll never get it.
