EDIT: You have to go to their website and deactivate you account to return to your vm box, but they don't make that clear. Once you download it, all voicemails go through them even if you uninstall the app. I uninstalled the app some time ago and removed permissions simple because this app didn't really do anything much more than my phone could already. Well, lo and behold, I check my emails and I've gotten a voicemail that I didn't even know I had (wasn't even in my regular voicemail box).
It Appears that there are less call protection settings available on the free version since the last update. There used to be an option for allowing or blocking private numbers and other options. Those appear gone now and now there is just on or off. The option to allow only contacts is greyed out. Now there is an upgrade button to pay if you want more options. I think I'd rather have the old version back. Maybe this will work somehow. Time will tell. Program has always worked well for me.
I purchased - yes, purchased, this app in 2018. Somewhere in all that time Youmail stopped recognizing that I bought it. Now they changed the features I was able to access and are telling me I need to upgrade. All the while not even acknowleging I bought the service. Don't be surprised if they suddenly act like you never bought the app. They make it difficult to contact them. In fact, if they say you did not purchase the app, then they won't talk with you without a subscription!
The app does a decent job at blocking calls, but some calls will still get through occasionally, even on maximum protection. But I'm giving 2 stars because they recently paywalled the maximum protection setting, making the standard edition pretty ineffective. I understand apps needing to make money, but it's hard for me to support features that were once free becoming paywalled.
Transcription isn't great, certain people don't speak very clearly but other services are better with them. I upgraded to solo to get a "professional recorded greeting" but my request was never acknowledged or completed. I want to go back to the cheaper subscription but can't find any way to do that so had to cancel outright instead. Also there are constant promotional alerts I can't stop despite having paid for no ads! Will be looking for other options.
In the past month or 2... only messages that are left while the phone is powered on, come through. No record of missed call or voicemail is available. People keep telling me they left a message there is no record of call or vm. Additionally, it is not recognizing contacts and sometimes attempts transcription. The problem with not getting a transcription is the messages never play through the speaker. Are these issues due to recent updates and will be fixed or should I just dump the app?
Some features are OK. I used to pay annually. Unfortunately... This app has gone the way of greed and forces an ad upon exiting the app. The space to store messages was reduced for non-paying members. I've used and referred often. I'd give it a 1 star rating, but it is still functional. That's why I gave it 2. I've been using youmail for probably close to 10 years. I'll be researching other apps.
I had a positive review from 2019 up but I decided to delete it and post a new one here in 2022. I'm still using the paid version of YouMail. It does what I need it to do when it comes to voicemail. For SPAM blocking, I think it helps, it's hard to tell. It does let me know when it's blocked calls every so often. I have no major complaints now 3 years since my last review. One of my favorite features is how it can send a text to the caller after they leave a message.
I've tried a lot of voicemails so far and this one is definitely the best.. The greetings are excellent and a lot of fun most , instructions on how to use the voicemail and it's Features are very easy to understand and all of the features seem to be working really good . I would highly recommend this app for anybody looking for a voicemail !!
I've used this app for years and really liked how well it works and how easy it is to use. I just attempted to change my blocking settings so I could get calls from someone working on my house, and now I have to subscribe to have any control besides turning blocking on or off. I guess that's one way to "simplify" the options. I get that you guys need to make money, and for a buck or two each month, I would have paid. $8/month is too much for simple controls that have been free for years.
Removed privacy protections and now requiring you to pay a monthly $7.99 for this glitchey app. Any caller ID blocking I could previously toggle on/off is now set to be permanently set on...so now no caller ID blocked calls come thru, which in the event of a 911 emergency, emergency responders alway call back with their caller ID blocked and will never be able to reach you. Same goes for medical providers. I don't think requiring this as a now paid service was very well thought out.
I loved this app and had recommended it to friends and family. However, I have recently noticed the free version (of call protection) isn't blocking some calls and the anonymous call block forwards calls to my voicemail. This app turned into a general "call blocking" app that had a 5 star rating down to 1 star. Voicemail greetings are great but not impressive. Sorry, but this app has a thumbs down.
Way too expensive. I would consider paying for this service but not for that much. Especially given the little glitches and issues with the app that I didn't mind overlooking when it was free.
No longer working. I have no idea why, but I wondered why people I blocked are suddenly calling again. Leave a voicemail doesn't work; it hangs up. Use a greeting doesn't work; it hangs up. This is happening to SPAM, Blocked and Unblocked callers! I'm incredibly frustrated. UPDATE: 5/17/22 WOW. Thank you SO much for making it easier for me to ditch this app entirely. So, starting June 1st you have to pay to use pretty much ANY of the useful features. Cool. Awesome. Friggin' losers. 🙄
I have been using this app for a very long time. Since the new update the way the app handles blocked calls is extremely bad. I am paying for a growth subscription and I should expect this app to block everyone that is not a contact. Sometimes it blocks calls and sometimes it doesn't. Very frustrating.
Update 5/2/2022: I have downgraded the app to keep the once free and important features that I use all the time free. I don't want to pay 72$/yr or 7.99/Mon for now paywalled features that I absolutely need to block daily spam calling. Ads in this app are starting to get uncomfortably pushy with the new update. To delete a voicemail u have to veiw an ad. This is unacceptable. I'm not paying monthly or yearly to remove ads to delete a voicemail. I'm downgrading this app.
I look very forward to the "Unread" tab update that will help filter the vm's that you mentioned in a response in January of '22. While I still love the app and think that everyone should have it, now I have a problem with not being notified that I have a new vm. The only way I can tell, if not by checking the app, is when I happen to notice it in my emails..... only sometimes that makes it "too late". Please fix, and thank you!
I've paid my full one year membership, upgraded, but they still haven't received it yet. STILL let's calls through. Even VERY clearly spammer (i.e. my first 6 digits phone number minus the last 4). I've uninstalled it more times than I've reinstalled it. Ads are rampant all over the app! Even with my upgraded premium payment.
What's going on, there are calls getting through that are not in my contact list. The reason i chose this app was to keep these telemarketers and spammers from annoying me with this craziness. It worked very well for quite some time, but now i might as well not have it. Is this your way of forcing users to BUY the upgrade and if so, that won't be happening.
have had this VM app for probably 10 years.. LOVE IT.. I have a business greeting set up for numbers saved from my clients.. and my daughters voice as my personal greeting from when she was 5. There's a free plan or an inexpensive paid plan. I have went back and forth and both are great. Also like the feature where it will not allow a person to leave a VM if they are calling from a blocked or restricted number, it just says "this # does not allow calls from blocked numbers goodbye 🤣
Loved it until recent changes took away my access to settings. Now contacts are having problems getting thru and my only option is to turn off the spam filter completely. Uninstalling and going to a different app.
Basically if you upgrade the application, features that were already free and included in the previous one now requires an expensive subscription. Only the basic features are available now. In that case I rather pay my own carrier spam protection
Something has changed since the last update. I am now getting many unwanted calls from restricted numbers that I wasn't getting before. I discover that to stop these I must upgrade my service to a paid subscription. This never happened before to me. Hopefully someone will address this issue. I was considering upgrading until this maneuver. I seriously think that this strongarm method will backfire and drive potential paying customers away.
