Yubico Authenticator

Yubico Authenticator allows you to use a YubiKey NEO to store OATH credentials (TOTP and HOTP supported, as used by Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, Amazon and many more) used for 2-factor authentication.
Storing the credentials on a YubiKey NEO ensures that your credentials are safe, even if your phone is compromised. It also makes it easy to move between multiple Android devices.

This works great. It initially threw me because saved credentials only show up when you tap the key with your phone. They really need better documentation of how to use this- I think people are marking it down because they are confused about how this is supposed to work. I think it's pretty cool though.

Just received two new Yubikey5 NFC. Neither will read within the app. I used both of them to sign into my Google account on the phone to verify functionality and added both of them to about a dozen websites, so yes NFC is on and I know how to use it. This app though, doesn't do anything.

The authenticator app is never able to read my YubiKeys through NFC. It gives a communication error message every time. And yes, I have NFC turned on, I am putting it on the correct spot on my phone, and I have tried repeatedly with two new YubiKeys.

Mobile app istotal trash. While the key itself and the desktop app work as intended, I couldn't get any of the accounts that are working with the key /desktop app, to even get acknowledged by the mobile app. While the QR code was scanned and is showing/populating its info in the app, absolutely nothing happens when prompted to touch the key in order to save it. Total waste of time.

So far so good!, have had once or twice communication error, either try again or restart app, not a huge deal, alot better having the codes stored on hardware where Fido2 isnt supported. Remember folks, anywhere you have 2fa enabled, print Off or write down your backup codes incase you cant use your key or codes. All in all happy so far with the app, running it on s10 plus on android 10

The best authenticator hands down. I don't know what other people are experiencing, but as for myself, it is the most reliable and safest way to do 2FA. By reducing the need of an authenticator to depend on a email, password, and/or phone number to retrieve data, you simply allow "the token" to have a "token"( a key), making it super secure. Plus the data is not stored on the phone, making it brilliant if you lose your phone. Avoiding the hastle of changing accounts and passwords. A+++

So much better then Google Authenticator. No more transferring accounts from one phone to another. All the accounts stay inside the Yubikey which is great. I haven't had any issues using the app like so many others who have. It could be the users phone if the NFC isn't scanning properly.

Does not work on motorola G6. THe app installs, loads and fails at the scan and or producing the 6 digit number repeatedly. Disappointing at best. Product has not been updated by devs recently. Useless for me. Google authenticator work well on my device. Once again disappointing!

Now I usually find that most 1 star reviews on apps are from people that don't know what they are doing. But not in this case. This authenticator app is horrible. Like others have said, I had a really hard time getting my phone to read the Yubikey 5 NFC, generally throwing an error. Also, it doesn't rotate through the codes every 30 seconds (you have to clear the screen and re-tap the NFC). Using Galaxy S21 w/ Android 11. If you are using the USB-C/Lightning version and plug directly into your phone, I'm sure it works perfectly, but if you plan to use NFC, you are in for pain and suffering. Not surprising considering the app hasn't been updated in years. Stick with the OG google authenticator.

App is worthless. As of writing the app hasn't been updated since September 2019. It cannot communicate via NFC without just spitting out an error. Completely unusable.

Works perfect with my Pixel 3 and Yubikey 4/5. TOTP, and Yubico OTP slot via NDEF, work seamless via NFC and make mobile authentications easy and secure. Edit: on my new Fairphone 4 I sometimes have to kill the app before my key is readable. If I don't do this, then the app doesn't get triggered by the key and remains inactive.

NFC on Android works - you need to be touching the button at the same time as holding the yubi nfc device to your phone. I figured this out after reading another review mentioning tapping the nfc. Baffling that yubico don't update this app or provide any gaddamn support at all. The authenticator app doesn't have a PIN/fingerprint lock option which would be good for leaving a nano in the usb port else if your phone is nicked they have free reign.

For a long time I was trying to figure out how to get my NFC key to work with my phone. I'd tap it and it'd ask which browser to use and then would open an unhelpful web page. Finally, I discovered this app and thought it might be the solution to using NFC on mobile. Nope! Tap is detected but nothing happens. Finally after a few taps it gives "Error in Yubikey communication". Sigh.

Pretty surprised this app hasn't been updated in over 2 years with all the negative reviews. Not even responding to users issues. Clearly there are things to address . Considering the money yubico must make from selling small pieces of plastic for large amounts of money you'd think they could afford to provide better service. Or any service at all. Very strange.

Added about 30 TOTP codes and after doing so, suddenly started to get the error: Error In Yubikey Communication. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, and even tried this app on multiple phones. What's worse is even on the Windows app from Yubico the codes are gone. Fortunately I had made a backup when I realized how ugly the app was, fearing bad development. Sad waste of time. Hope they fix this issue soon.

Yubikey 5 NFC isn't working with Pixel 2 XL running Android 9 (Security Patch Level: October 5, 2018). Its working fine on my Nexus 9 tablet running Andrdoid 7.1.1 (Security Patch Level: October 5, 2017). I suspect something is wrong with the application and Android 9. I hope its fixed soon. I'm really excited to use my Yubikey. If I put it right on top of the finger print scanner, it seems to be working better. Still not perfect.

Correction: it did download to my Chromebook after 10 minutes! It is not working properly though. I followed all of the instructions exactly the way I did for my mobile devices including tapping the Yubico as the final step. It is not registering. It worked okay on my two android mobile devices. I am using a Hp x360 14 chromebook.

Time sync needs to be added as an option to software. Recent updates disabled auto time sync and my phone was 5 minutes off. None of my tokens worked due to time delta. Add it guys or at least put in some documentation somewhere... Wasted many hours to figure that out... Enabling auto time fixed the prob.

NFC does not work. As others have previously said, this does not work on my OnePlus 6T with android 10. I use android pay all the time so I know the NFC on this phone is excellent. The phone does detect the yubikey (vibrates) but after 2 or 3 attempts the app just reports that communication fails. This has been a clear issue, reported by many users for over 18 months now. Hang your head in shame Yubico, terrible customer service.

Jas. J. Oct 7, 2020

After multiple attempts I finally got it to work without giving an authentication error. I'm still having some problems using two separate keys. The AUTHY app is still better but this is a nice secure solution.

App is throwing "error in yubikey communication!" Whenever I try to connect my Security Key NFC with app. I've removed my case, and can confirm that my phone's (Galaxy s10e) NFC is working for mobile pay. This is a blocking feature for me using a yubikey. If this issue cannot be resolved, the yubikey is not useful for me

Adr. M. Feb 7, 2019

Ok I guess, store otp offline, on your key. the ui is ugly and there could be better options and a better experience. Most people looking for this kind of security are also open source enthusiasts, yubikey stopped being open source hardware and software, the fdroid apps are no longer being updated. This might be the only option for now, so a bit of a monopoly on this end, but different hardware keys are out there and I encourage you to do your research and find the best fit for you.

None of the features seem to work. Tapping a key usually does nothing even though my phone vibrates in response to the NFC reading. Scanning the QR code does nothing. Disappointing.

DJ. A. Mar 9, 2020

Super frustrating and, basically, useless. Tried with 2 separate YubiKey NFC 5 keys, on two separate Android devices with NFC support. All I get is "YubiKey communication error", "NFC read error" or (most of the time) just nothing except for the "Tap or insert your YubiKey".

Aim. A. Sep 26, 2021

The app it self is quite easy to use. Really like the "tap to show listing of 2fa" instead of just showing everything. But after few times of using it, the app say it have issue with communicating with Yubikey via NFC but when I try the Yubikey with other app login with NFC 2fa function, it works perfectly fine. Yubico really need to fix this Authenticator.

My key scans fine through nfc. While scanning when the app is open I just received a communication error. If I don't have the application open already I'm about to choose how I would like to handle opening the key information.

Love having codes on a physical key instead of a phone. Super easy to move between devices. Would love to see a few improvements to knock it out of the park. Load all codes on an NFC tap if configured to require a touch. The ios app does this feature in one NFC tap, but android requires NFC, finger touch, and NFC again. Add the ability to edit info after the initial setup. I like to obscure my account names. Add more than 32 codes to your hardware. Using Yubikey 5 NFC, Sony Xperia X compact

It works. Keep in mind this app hasn't been updated since 2019.. it is very rough but works. Also using anything other than the 30 second timer and all that other jaz doesn't work.
