Yuka - food & cosmetic scan

Yuka has really improved form its inception here in Australia. I've updated my rating accordingly. I would like to see a manual search field and shortcuts when I tap and hold the app. Sure. Scan, search, favourites. My phone offers a function that allows me to tap and hold the fingerprint scanner and select shortcuts + apps. Although I like Yuka — it's a little dissapointing that they still haven't introduced the search functionality here. Deducted one star.

I LOVE this app!! It's helped me so much with cutting all the junk our if my life and all it takes is a quick scan. I love that they provide articles as to why the additives are bad instead of just saying so, so you can be more informed of what you are consuming. The developers also get back to you super quick when it comes to adding new products. My only "complaint" is that I wish that they could expand to cover things like detergent and cleaning supplies.

This app is amazing! I do wish it had more studies in English as most of them are in Spanish, but translating with technology is not really an issue. You get everything the app has to offer without premium except a search bar, but you don't really need it unless you're trying to buy products online I guess. But you can scan anything in store and not only get information on that product, but recommendations for products better for you that are similar! Will be using for everything I buy!

I don't like that it takes points off for food that has "too many calories". That's subjective and dependent on the person who is eating the food. 100 calories for some orange juice should not deduct THAT many points. I do, however, like using this for cosmetic products. It's very helpful because I don't know the technical names for many of the harsh or toxic chemicals in a lot of hair and skin care items. I also like how in depth it goes in describing why the ingredients are bad for you :)

This app is great it has helped show me all the horrible things I put in my body and on my body. Extremely helpful while shopping so you don't have to read every label and know what toxic ingredients to watch for. Just scan product and its tells you everything. If they don't have the product listed you can add it and they will rate it for you. The only improvement I would suggest is having a way to rate things from online sources. There is a search bar but no way to add a product before buying.

So helpful when shopping, but also to go thru your cabinets and fridge. I'm learning more about foods and ingredients every day and this helps teach you what makes foods or cosmetics bad, and more importantly why. Had to turn off battery and data in the background though... My phone was getting very hot on charge and once I did that, my phone cooled down immediately.

Anytime I try to click on something thats in my saved list of things I've scanned, so that I can see the ingredients and their ratings; the app crashes and my phone tells me the app has a bug and to wait til developer has created a fix. Can we please get this fixed? I love this app and its been helping me change to healthier products.

Really do not understand this rating system. It doesn't seem to weigh the importance of ingredients or just completely ignores them. After it told me animal crackers were better than simple mills products, I'm out. Would be more helpful to break down each ingredient and rate each ingredient. The ratings for calories, fat, etc are all objective. Also, fat is not bad! I would not recommend this app to make any informed choices. Look at the ingredients first.

I wish you could put in your own goals,, I'm trying to get healthier after an ed relapse and I'm struggling to eat anything. Everything I've scanned is "a bit too caloric" which is really stressing me out. Like pistachios are rated as excellent but "a bit too caloric" serving size is 150 calories which I think isnt bad for a meal but I don't wanna have any now because I don't know? Seeing that is causing me more issues than its solving so idk if I'll actually be able to keep using the app :o/

Very helpful in selecting healthy products, especially things like cosmetics that have lots of long complicated ingredients that would take ages to look up individually. And it's great that when you scan a product that's bad, it gives you suggestions for safer alternatives!

This app has been super helpful when I'm in the store. It seems out products with harmful additives for me. It also breaks down the overall health of a product in a very easy visual way. So if "too many calories" isn't a concern of mine then I still buy the product. You can also favorite items which is super helpful for me to make a nice list of snacks I can buy in the future. Great app!

My best favourite thing. Love going round scanning the stuff I usually eat and drink and finding out about any hidden nasties. I have some decent knowledge of nutrition and some of the reasons for foods being "bad" are a little misleading, in my opinion. But overall it's really good and it will definitely help me make better buying decisions. Rating 4 and not 5 because I've had some problems with the all mulfunctioning.

Super easy to use. I just wish there was an option for the user to select specific ingredients, to warn you ever time they are in an ingredients list, such as MSG or specific preservatives you are sensitive to. Otherwise I love it and recommend to everyone I know.

This app is so simple to use and so easy to add products when we happen on to an item that isn't yet listed. This app has changed how we shop for out food. Had to upgrade it's such a reasonable amount to pay and there is just so much value in the information available at your fingertips here. Thank you, please keep this app going forever. I wouldn't feel confident shopping for food without it. I use it every time I go to the store.

Awesome! Got premium after only a few minutes if trying it. Love that it not only says that an item is bad, it says why. Also, as a plant based eater, it tells me if a food is vegan. Much easier than reading every label. Just scan and go.

The only problem I have with it right now is that it keeps recommending me products from other countries (french products for example) that I won't be able to get – and I can't seem to find an area setting or something. Yes this alternative seems great but I'm not taking a road trip to france for it

Everytime I try open the app it gives me the option to log in with Facebook or email and everytime I click either it lags out. I haven't even gotten to try the app because I'm unable to get far enough in it to try it. I've restarted my phone, I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Idk what the issue is..

This app has changed my life. This app easily and conveniently informs you of all the harmful additives and preservatives in our food and beauty products. Who really knows exactly what all those hard to pronounce ingredients even are. Who really has time to do the much research on every ingredient on every item you buy. This app gives you information on the harmful ingredients, then gives each item a rating on how healthy and safe for use It is. I Always recommend doing your own research also.

I love it! But now my refrigerator and pantry are empty because I had so many poor/bad food items. I usually read labels at the store but some are sneaky so its hard to really tell, but the app lets me know the real deal. Going to use this every time I buy food from now on.

I like using this app. It gives good info on the items they list. However at times they don't show a particular item and you then input and take photos of the item. I don't bother. It takes a few minutes. I just move on to the next item.

Im very sensitive to preservatives & sulfates. Im sensitive to everything pretty much. This makes it so much easier when buying pre-packaged foods & snacks. Then I found out my "vegan" shampoo wasn't actually vegan & the ingredients are carcinogenic. Its amazing what this app catches what I miss. I trust this app. Im so glad I found this app & highly suggest it If you have allergies & sensitivities like I do.

This app is a really great tool to have when shopping. I love it... I wish they scanned every item in the food and cosmetics departments. Some items are unknown.

Yuka is excellent at telling you how ingredients are harmful. But MOST of the products I've scanned are rated poor or bad. Now I'm overwhelmed, without knowing what changes to make. There is a recommendations function (suggests a "safer" product), but NONE of the 23 "harmful" items I've scanned have suggestions (maybe bc I live in Australia). Also, the categorisation of foods as good or bad based on sugar/calories has the potential to be harmful. I'll keep it, but it won't be much use :(

This app has been a life saver for me. The skin is the biggest organ and l strive to only use products that are safe and good for your health. For so long l've been trying to use natural products, this app has helped me see that the word natural is most of the time very deceiving. I will not purchase any products unless l run it by Yuka. Thank you so much!

It would be great if there were a free trial for the premium membership, like 3 days or something. I don't have a lot of money so I don't like committing to services and subscriptions unless I know they're worth it for me, and I'd like to test if the premium features are worth me paying for.

This is great app for people with food intolerances and allergies or any one that is just trying to follow a healthy diet and wants to learn or get informed about what is in the food we consume every day. Apart from being free you can also add products that do not exist in their database yet. So everyone can contribute. It's fantastic. Genial idea!

Changed the way I shop for groceries. Only been using 6 weeks and I already feel better. Makes it so easy to eliminate harmful additives. Love the recommendations as well.

This is a super helpful and easy to use app while shopping. The numbers it rates foods can sometimes be misleading, for example, it says a That's It bar has too much sugar since it doesn't take into account that the bar also has the natural fiber from the fruits. However, it is super helpful it showing you any risky ingredients and I love how it explains why they are risky. I especially like using it to compare two different foods or beauty products.

Updating my review to reflect the recent app update. It seems the data unavailable for common products was unintended and the developer was able to resolve in short order. I still stand by my initial feedback that showing nutritional highlights (additives, sugar, fat, etc) would still be highly beneficial to the user despite the lack of rating on certain product types. Outside of that the app works rather well, it's an easy interface, snappy, and saves previous searches which is a nice touch.

Easy to use and enlightening. No ads! Changed out most of my skin care products. Paid for the premium membership too. Search function could use some tweaking for better results. Scanning the barcodes seems to be the best. Would like to see improvement on creating lists for swapping products. Right now I save everything to favorites whether it's something I own or want to swap for and both good and bad rated products. Recommendations are limited and I prefer searching for better rates products.
