Was free to use. Now its popular, some of the features have been moved behind a subscription paywall. This wasn't an issue when it was just routes but now you can't filter connector types which has made it intentionally hard to use in congested areas. Shame really as it relies on the goodwill of drivers to indicate whether they are checked in or not. Not gonna happen now :). It should be charge point companies paying this fee to get their points listed, not end users. Food for thought...

I haven't got an electric car but I can't see that this app would work in finding charge points, there's many of the charge points that are on there that it's impossible to use as there located in car parks to flats and the non-electric cars are mostly parked there. I'd think it'd be more of a headache than anything else.

Very slow and you have to be logged in to report a faulty charger. No security risks so why ask people to log in?! I can't remember the other 1,000 passwords for other apps and sites never mind this one. Companies make things so unnecessarily difficult these days. It just makes like an every battle!!

Its good on the whole, except for the times it freezes and says 'show all, change filters' - only the mist effective way to remedy this is to restart phone. Frustrating

Currently using it to assess it's future value to me. I'm impressed with the level of adjustment available, the identification of charge points and the accuracy of the selected ev in a real/pretend situation . I look forward to adding real world evidence but looking so useful already.

Good but could be better. When I log in it keeps saying no charge points in area. But when I log out, as if by magic, it suddenly comes out with loads of charge points!

Cant add payment cards, even after trying alternative cards. Without payment options the app offers nothing more than google maps.

Very useful app and fairly accurate though only as good as the people giving accurate updates and availablity.

Tried twice to register, completed the process, both times a vague "Problem registering" message, no reason why.

Was on the free version, finally upgraded to premium and worth every penny. Without this app, I couldn't travel the length and breadth of the country in an EV. Best feature: integration into Android auto. It would be helpful if you could add a filter for Shell which included all of their partner networks. (E.g. shell, ionity, osprey... Plus the rest, all on one click)

A nightmare to register on and a pretty fatal error on route planning found, which was then resolved when I posted a bad review. Much better now that it all works(!) I particularly like the route planner with suggested charge point(s) mid-route, rather than other similar apps which just list every single charge point there and back. Not tried paid-for option yet.

Essential app but needs some optimisation now. It is hard sometimes to get it to show favourites. Favourites button does not work so well. It seems to prefer showing the huge total number of chargers which is unweildy now. Also currently it does not let me choose which navigation app I want to use. It would be great if you could select charge points as waypoints and calculate a route between them to your destination.

The app itself is very useful and comprehensive however the infrastructure is not there in England despite more charging points there is not enough and you need to get lucky to get a charge on your travels 1.that works. 2. the app works. 3. there is no queue to charge. Having an electric car is amazing but I would not recommend for long journeys you can run out quite quickly even if it does 200 miles charge goes quick dependent on so many factors, the weather,,your driving, if you use music and heating and air conditioning......

Premium upgrade required for android auto... no trail or anything so pointless install.

Pau. S. Mar 28, 2022

Best I've found no problems as of yet. Great for planning routes keep the good service up.

Dan. H. Apr 4, 2022

Just out of date- often missing chargers and has the wrong power ratings on the chargers . Good idea

Pau. H. Oct 4, 2021

Despite the flip to a subscription based model the app does still work if you register and setup a car specific filter. However I had issues getting that to work despite the developer saying it should, in the end I needed to reset the app data then it worked fine. As for the subscriptions, I don't think it makes sense for everyone, I know where the chargers are near my home and rarely have to use them anyway. I likely only need it for a week or two at a time when I'm away somewhere.

Only just downloaded the app and straight away realised the map is out of date. We have a charging point near us but it's not on the map and it's been there for some time. This doesn't help encourage people to get an ev especially if they're travelling to an unfamiliar destination!!! It would also be more convenient if there was a search button and an instruction page.

As an EV driver this app is a must have. My main problem is that it shows far too many charging points when zoomed out. I know the UK quite well and yet I get lost in blues and purples when I am zoomed out a bit. For orientation I end up flicking between Google maps and zap map, as you cannot read any cities any more, when zoomed out. Can't you please group charging points into one pin (i.e. one pin with something like "500+" for a specific area like London) which split up when you zoom in?

This app is the be all and end all, all in one app for BEV drivers in the UK. It's fantastic. My only gripe is that in the latest app update, route planner is failing to find ANY charge points (even when editing a saved journey route with the exact same settings, it pulls up no chargers at all when previously there were multiple!) Will go back to what my initial 5* rating was going to be after passing 3 months of EV driving (and using this app!). This app should be integral to any EV driver's app catalogue though. **EDIT After contacting devs of the app and working closely (and quickly!) with them have resolved the issues with routes, albeit having to recreate from scratch. This app is invaluable!

Definitely opens up a LOT faster with the last (Mar '19) update. Would like to either follow route within zap-map or have option to transfer it to Google maps for following in the car... Now that I've looked at it, the key is to display the route and tap the 1st charging point and then tap "navigate to this charge stop". You're following the route by charging points.

What is going on, lags, crashes, and more. This app use too be pretty reliable, but recently it's become one of the most problematic android apps I've ever used. After being open for more that 2 min it's lagging, and often the app completely freezes up to the point I'm having to restart my phone (one plus 7 pro). No excuses this is just incompetence. Need to find an alternative.

It's good that it's now possible to pay for a charge through Zap-Map, but I would prefer if I could register a debit or credit card now - before leaving home in anticipation of needing to do so. Most apps allow registration of a payment method before using the app and I prefer it that way - no nasty surprises while standing at an EV charging station in the p***ing rain and dark.

Ale. H. Jul 15, 2019

Update 15/07/2019 - route planner seems to work somewhat better now, switching between charge points on the map does seem to be quite laggy but it is useable. I find it better to not use the "suggest charger" feature. Looking forward to when this type of route planning can be incorporated with traffic information etc.. On the whole a useful app, but has to be used in conjunction with others.

Dav. C. Oct 2, 2021

This used to be the defacto, go to app until the subscriptions started. I get that they want to make money. The problem is pricing. £5 and £8 a month is a lot for what little functionality you get. Also they lock new charging stations behind subs.£1 a month upkeep would have been fine with but I don't use routing or zap-pay (don't see it's value over tap to pay, just another account) so it's not worth it for me. "We're adding more in future" but that's not now and right now you want me to pay.

Chr. L. Sep 4, 2021

Very disappointing Android auto integration. Search filter is very limited Indeed. Routes, favourite chargers, saved filters, car settings (other than the model) etc don't carry over. "Chargers near me" doesn't refresh in real time. And my biggest two gripes (not specific to auto integration) are that the filters do not allow you to exclude chargers that are down or busy and the detailed filters do not apply to the route planner. While its a must have for ev drivers it feels very unfinished.

Pretty good, but only works in the UK and the UI feels a little dated

Cli. P. Sep 14, 2021

Zap Map was the best App by far...now the new "upgrade" is dumbed right down and subscription is required for the most basic functionality. Greedy: they could have profited from their ZapPay revenue stream or ads or a reasonable app purchase cost say £3-5. I will be switching to other apps for charging planning in future. Developer's feedback is misleading: for example you can now only save only one filter so functionality is much reduced when planning routes. The latest upgrade has locked almost all the filter variables making the most useful feature of the app (a variety of filters to extend your choices when route planning) no longer useful...shame on you Zap Map, you had a market lead but you are destined to fail now.
