Zero Motorcycles

The Zero Motorcycles App is the perfect companion to your 100% electric Zero.
The app utilizes your Android device’s Bluetooth connection to communicate with any 2013 model year or later Zero Motorcycles model.

The Zero App includes a "Demo Mode" that allows you to browse the App and envision what it might be like to use this app with your own Zero. We encourage you to check it out.

With the Zero App, you can:
- Customize your motorcycle’s performance by adjusting ‘ECO mode’ (2013 model year) or ‘CUSTOM mode’ (2014 model year and later) to set top speed, maximum torque, and deceleration and braking regenerative levels.
- View live data from your motorcycle in a configurable dashboard-like riding screen (options include torque, battery current, motor temperature, estimated range, and more).
- View detailed battery and performance data from the motorcycle when not in use.
- Get real-time estimates for recharge times of your battery as well as view battery voltage and total kilowatt-hours used.
- Gather trip statistics, including average watt-hours per mile, cost per mile, money saved v. gasoline and CO2 reduced vs gas.
- See the latest Zero Motorcycles news and updates through a discrete ticker.

(2022 FXE) The app is good for setting the custom mode, once it is connected. Else, there is limited visible and useful functionality. - takes more than five minutes to connect to Bluetooth - motorcycle discovery must be initiated manually and takes between 2 and 6 minutes - connection must be build up manually and takes between three and infinite minutes - around 10% of my tries are successful - it defaults to demo mode when it fails to connect - which needs to be manually turned off to attempt another try to connect - it switches between metric and imperial units randomly - while doing so it changes saved values, such as cost/Wh, but does not revert back - it is not transparent, which data it harvests, and how this is associated with the owner or the VIN of the bike

Reverts back from metric to imperial / US units with every use. Doesn't remember the bike so needs to be connected every time. The range of Bluetooth is too short, you have to be so close to the bike that you can check charge state on the display just as easily.

It's a technology driven bike! "The Tesla of motorcycles".. and yet the app was designed by an eighth grader. Barely connects, barely works.

App really does the bare minimum. You can view the current state of the bike and configure "custom" mode. That's about it. There's no alarm for when the battery is full. You can't schedule charging or anything else useful. No way to share data over wifi - It'd be really useful to be able to integrate this with Hassio (which I use for home automation) even if the phone was serving as a bridge between the bluetooth and wifi. At least make it all open source so we can develop our own apps.

Connecting is a series of opening and closing the app, messing with Bluetooth pairing on the bike, have to re-pair every time. After all that it's a very dumbed down amount of information. No real battery info, doesn't log anything you do when you ride, etc. Custom mode is the only thing that's useful. It's just awful, why is the demo something you can't shut off? I get that it's great at the dealership when they are trying to show what the app can do. But it pulls that up by default.

(FX2017) With the new version onnection only works if Bluetooth and app are restarted every time. If connection succeeds, you are now stuck in ridescreen mode which automatically launches. There's no way to get into the actual app (no back button, no long press tilting phone doesn't do anything). Changing ridescreen setup didn't help (works only when not connected). You are stuck in ridescreen and thus, can't setup anything.

Absolutely refuses to connect to my 2021 SR. I've tried all the instructions and FAQs, and the bike's Bluetooth symbol just blinks and the app can't find it. "ZeroSpy" connects, as does "Metrics For Zero Motorcycles", so apparently the bike works. I was finally able to load an older version, connect, then update and it worked.

I'm not sure what this app is used for other than setting your custom ride mode. It shows how your battery is charging but since it's Bluetooth you can only see it if you're so close you might as well just look at your bike. It was hard to pair it the first time and even now when it detects my bike I have to try at least 4 or 5 times to get it to connect.

Not bad with room for improvement. I like the design and the BT connection usually works for me, but: - app doesn't remember settings (e.g. to use metric units and kWh price) - would be nice to show values from last time connected, instead of always going into demo mode

Old app has much clearer font style on dashboard screen, this has reduced font size on all channels, with some even smaller than others, difficult to read if used as auxiliary dash. Otherwise exactly same as old app, have not found extra features, change for no reason.

App is 50/50 when connecting to my 2019 FX, disconnects anytime I change screens in the menu on my OnePlus 7 pro, and does the same on other Android devices. It alerts me of firmware updates but will not successfully update with my phone so I use a friend's IOS device and it works flawlessly.

Connection with Zero S via Bluetooth can be temperamental. Updates complete but so far haven't ever gone all the way to showing completion in the app. Would really like to see a feedback option in-app. Please increase braking Regen aggressiveness.

For a company that makes finely tuned machines, they cannot make an app that works properly for it. I just bought a 2021 Zero motorcycle. I tried 3 android network phones and all would not connect. I tried and iPhone and it instantly connected. I don't own an iPhone nor do I want to buy a new phone so please fix your android network app.

There's room for so much more data to capture about our trips. The app is only useful to adjust the custom ride mode. Other than that, it didn't provide much and is a missed opportunity.

I have not been able to connect the Android app with my 2015 SR. I've tried manually forcing the app to stop and deleting the cache. I've tried with the bike plugged in, not plugged in, and manually putting the bike into bluetooth pairing mode with the mode button. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I tried adding the bike via the system Bluetooth connection dialog. I read every forum post I could find for a solution. The app just does not recognize the bike.

Bluetooth connection. Connect, finding. Select. Immediately get a connection error. After several attempts, goes to unknown bike. Sometimes I can't be bothered and half way to work it may finally connect. Phone connects fine to Sena, bicycle, satnav, watch and car. Hope this is helpful.

Once i opened the dashboard it wouldn't do anything else. I even reinstalled but it opens directly to the dash with no way to leave that screen. It crashes all the time. It's a shame this hot garbage is all I have to "control" my bike.

Got my FXS in 2016. The back end went spontaneously and dangerously out of alignment less than 6 months later. The only authorized dealer kept it for MONTHS and were never able to fix it, and they just "gave up" and refused to do anything to rectify the warranty situation. They just forced me to take a broken motorcycle back and it's been in my driveway and unable to be used ever since. Then, no joke, the batteries started leaking. Unused, cost over $12k, and still had to continue payments.

The support function of emailing bike logs and bike and battery logs has only ever worked once. it will connect to the bike erratically, but when it does connect it will download the logs, but once it reaches 100% the app just closes. and does not send the logs.

Updated review from 2010. I have had issues with previous versions not workung. Current version is functional. Still limited by model year for updates which means a trip to a far away dealer now.

Uterly useless. Complains about needing apps to turn screen overlay off. I have tried but for most of them the switch is greyed out. So the developers need to sort this out.

Gar. S. Oct 17, 2019

When trying to exit the layout demo screen i can't back out.. had to reset phone.. but app did everything as expected except for returning to selection screen.

This app works great if you are having problems connecting the Bluetooth go to: Settings - apps - zero app- storage - scroll down and select clear cache This solves the problem and allows an immediate bluetooth pairing

Mik. K. Sep 30, 2019

I like the new look. Log file downloading works well and the firmware update screen now shows installed version and update version - very useful. However - exiting the app is impossible! How about an exit command?

Ton. D. May 24, 2020

Worked OK on my Samsung S9 but got a new S10e now it doesn't even connect on blu. It says it's paired but app jus whirrs around not connecting have tried the usual, reinstalled, restarted bike and phone, nada. Bit annoyed 😒

(2020 Zero DS) Please update this damn app, I just spent all this money on this bike and I can't even customize my settings. This app is TRASH, nothing works! I've tried every troubleshooting step & still stuck at square one. Absolute waste of time

Terrible Bluetooth implementation, doesn't connect reliably, terrible app. Are they even trying to fix any of the problems with it?

Pau. M. Aug 29, 2019

Can't download logs to Zero for a BMS board issue I'm having... gets to 100% then app crashes and closes. Tried six times. Very frustrating.
