As a new user of this zinio, I find it is responsive and easy to use, but a little "flakey". I have only downloaded 2 magazines so far, and in each case one page would only display as a thumbnail. The full size page was blank. I have only tried this with one of the magazines but I found that deleting the the magazine and re downloading it seemed to fix the problem. This raises a more serious, deliberate problem with the program, that it deletes all downloads when you log out. No SD storage.
I have been using the app since 2008, I like the way it display my magazine. The biggest drawback are keyword search through time - not possible. also getting the old magazine in pdf format for classification and research is not possible. You have to bookmark the page of interest and download you magazine for offline reading.
I am no longer able to view any of my purchased magazines. Since yesterday none of the content I paid for over the years is available. Nothing I tried is helping! I keep on getting error after error. Extremely disappointed 😞
In all the years I've had this app, I've had very few issues, and each time a problem arose, I received amazing service from Zinio staff. They are well trained and know what they're doing. This is one of the best apps I've ever used! Well done Zinio!
This is a superior app and I have nothing but good things to say about it and feel about it. thank you for making this such a good app. I had the opportunity to work with the customer service team as well and they are exemplary! thank you again for helping me with the problem I was having
Great.Loads of magazines that I wouldn't otherwise be able to find easily. Easy to use as well.
It is ungodly slow but the content of the magazines is good if you can get it to go to the next page
disappointed on many levels it cannot use expanded memory, so when the internal memory was full and the files utility moved some file to the external memory, I lost all my magazine, bookmarks etc. Tech. support was completely useless as they had no idea how to retrieve my files. New issue: when downloading a subscribed magazine, random pages are not downloaded and remain blank, although they appear in the thumbnails view. And again, no response to my emails from tech support
Even though this app is better than the awful Zinio PC program, that isn't saying much. Magazines randomly fail when downloading, locking the app in an endless "queued" status, forcing you to reset the whole thing. Even when downloaded, magazines occasionally give you an error about connecting and refuse to display at all. All magazines are stored in your internal storage, with no auto-cleanup options. Page loading even in text mode is ridiculously slow. Whoever writes Zinio's apps (esp. the current PC version, which is even worse than this) should be fired.
Not a great reading app. I only have it because the magazine I want is only available in this app. This app doesn't remember where on the page you left off so when you go back to your article you have to scroll to find your spot. This is especially a problem on text mode when clicking on a picture, after closing the picture view you'll be sent back to the top of the page. Simply just a mediocre experience for a reading app.
Store is great with wide variety of mags but app is a mess and has been ever since they introduced updated version a year or so ago. App is full of bugs, is unstable (especially if trying to read offline), and can be hit and miss with downloads and opening mags requiring reboots which makes for inconsistent and frustrating experience. Updated: Increased rating as for most part issues have been resolved. Still has some random crashes especially when offline but generally pretty stable now.
The latest update is a mess. My entire family (multiple accounts) have lost access to their subscriptions. Six different devices cannot connect through apps OR browsers... EXCEPT the cell phones through mobile data with WiFi explicitly off. Well, that's not happening. While losing precious breaths of life scrolling through support, I found that our archived issues are offline until further notice. Bye-bye. Wonder what the competition is like?
Great app and concept with one minor but very important aspect having been overlooked (at least for Samsung Android devices), that is, the possibility of keeping the downloads in an external memory card rather than in the tablets main memory. This means you have to be deleting magazines from the app all the time. Could you have a look into this? Thanks!
Almost unusable. My subscriptions expired, but I never received an email informing me about that. When I ran the app it never notified me about expired subscriptions. When I tried to open a magazine, it simply wouldn't open - no error message, just eternal spinning waiting icons. I only realized what the problem was when I was able to open older issues but not newer ones. I tried to purchase a new subscription, but wasn't able to find any way to accomplish the task - I could only find an option to buy an individual issue, which was NOT what I wanted. I've had it with this really crappy app. I'm switching to Readly.
Terrible! You cannot access downloaded content. The app endlessly churns FOREVER while it syncs. You can't even delete content because you have no access. And god forbid you should minimize the app when you go back to it the process starts all over again! This is only good for light readers with few magazines. UPDATE: They have done nothing to fix the problem.
I can no longer access my magazines. Older version, which have been paid for cant be read in my library anymore. New versions keep experimenting unexpected download errors. Absolute waste of money now, and customer service hasn't resolved a thing in 3 weeks. I'd rather get my money back, then have free versions of other mags offered to me, which I can't read either. It used to work well, now it's all gone. Very disappointed.
I originally liked Zinio a great deal, recommended it to friends, and have many subscriptions. The app has now outgrown all my devices and I can read my magazines only on the web interface. I have uninstalled the app as it no longer works for me. I am finding that the magazines I want are now available for the Kindle and through Google Books, both of which work well on my devices. I will someday buy a new device, but by then I suspect I will have shifted to subscribing through other vendors.
Absolutely phenomenal customer support. The responsiveness and willingness to make things right is amazing and so refreshing. The app itself is beautifully designed and easy to navigate. It is the most elegant app for reading magazines I've come across. They also have significant sales every single week. I have been using Zinio for four years now and can't recommend it enough!
While the variety of magazines available is good...i find the pricing to be overly expensive. You can only subscribe to individual titles and the price per magazine can be up to 5.99 each. There are better options out there where you can subscribe monthly to the app and have unlimited access to multiple magazines for a much cheaper cost.
With TEXT reading mode the text can finally be viewed by those with poor eyesight - thanks. But each new release fixes one bug & creates another. When you drag the page in TEXT reading mode it often misinterprets a drag gesture as a single tap and displays the title at top of screen & settings at bottom of screen - mentioned by at least one other reviewer. Final long standing bug - whenever display is turned off/ back on, or apps switches, or orientation changes, the current page is scrolled back to top; and the position is lost. Did you know the Zinio app shares the same codebase with the RBDigital app; both have the same UI bugs. Why during library magazine checkout does the RBDigital webpage say Zinio has merged with RBDigital?
reasonably good app but could do with some improvements to make it mode usable, remember the position within the article when you switch apps and reload when opening the app, put to magazines you last read to the top so you don't have to find them, grouping magazines in the library would also be useful. otherwise the reading view and contents pages are very nice and easy to read just needs the improvements above as it's a pain if you close or use another app.
I purchased one issue of a quilting magazine, and the digital issue on Zinio didn't come with the pattern inserts that accompany every print edition, rendering half of the patterns useless. The desktop app for Chromebooks has a bug. Every screen has a blue tint over it, even the login. Some pages load correctly until scrolling, then it looks like you've "selected" the whole page without clicking. Downloads don't transfer between platforms under the same account.
I have been experiencing performance issues over the last year or so. App would freeze, pages would not load, download would just disappear. But now they are using app notifications that mimic messages or other traditional notifications. It is absolutely irritating. I can't count the number of times that I look down to see a bell or chat box thinking I missed an important thing, only to see its zinio. THAT is why I am uninstalling.
I bought an issue of a magazine on ZINIO a few days ago. At first it showed up in my library but wouldn't let me download it. Then it simply disappeared. I sent an email about this and attached my receipt of payment. I got an apology and was told it had been sorted out and added to my library. Didn't happen. Not there. No reply to my next email complaining either. Cannot recommend this app until they show they can sort customers' issues properly.
This used to be a good app with no problems. Now I can use the Web version but it no longer works on my phone even after a full reinstall. As for my kindle fire HD the App seems to have been removed entirely from the App store. The existing kindle version let's me see old magizines but none for this month. The only way I can get in to see them is via the Web. Very disappointed 😥
I have been buying magazines and using this app for over 5 years. During this time I have had no issues. As of two weeks ago the app shuts within 1-2 minutes of opening on both of my Android tablets. I sent a dump file last week and have heard nothing back. I gave it 2 stars Bacchus of years without issue, now I feel like it is a loss of money.
Can't read any magazines and app crashes when trying to download. Got in touch with Zinio support who advised the standard delete cache and reinstall which still doesnt work. I remember maybe 5 years ago this app was good... havent used it for 4 years because its mostly unusable. Between download issues... pages corrupting, looking blurry even when zoomed in. I try it out again every time i switch to a new device.. but still doesnt work. Support does email back pretty quick, but tbh all they can say is clear cache & reinstall. Update- tried app on all my phones, Samsung S8 , S9 and One Plus One ... none of them work
I've been using zinio for years. Today we lost our internet connection, no netflix, no Amazon. So I'll read one of the magazines I downloaded. Nope, doesn't work without an internet connection. What a let down. I guess I'll just have to read the colour book about mushrooms I downloaded on the Kindle app, yep that works just fine.
