I have a very small capacity phone, but a very large SD Card. It would be awesome if the magazine's could be saved to the SD Card instead. Currently I can carry only very free magazine's for offline reading. Also, I can't for the life of me figure out when the pages scroll downwards and when they flip like pages.
Clunky interface overall, but my biggest issue is that it doesn't give you the option to scroll horizontally. You are forced to scroll vertically which means that when a magazine has an article with a two page photo (like most do), you can't see it seamlessly. You have to look at the front half of a car and then scroll down to see the other half. You can't see the whole car at once.
Like previous people have said, You need to allow users to save to SD, it just takes up too much valuable internal storage, plus it not user friendly when it comes to removing and sorting your online content, Is a real shame as it could be a great app. I will be complaining to my local libary also.
Great app when it works... But somehow they keep breaking the login system.. Once they stop doing this ot will be a 5 star app. Works for now. Oh, and lets us us SD to save publications to.. No idea why apps have moved away from this.. Number 1 reason I buy Android.
Only 4 stars despite loving it. That is because it works perfectly on my Samsung devices but is unusable on my Chuwi Hi12 - it keeps crashing. Cache cleared. App reinstalled. Still no good. The device is perfect for reading magazines being 12" and it works without crashing if viewing through Chrome browser but that is not ideal. Please fix.
I stopped using this app because the developers fail to see the most obvious problem. All the magazines are being saved on device's internal storage instead of SD. From inside the Zinio app I removed all the magazines and still it was taking up huge space. I had to go to Settings > Apps from main menu and clear out all the data from this app. Then today I was deep cleaning the device and I found out that all the magazines that I thought deleted were still sitting in the device in forms of PDF, HTML, and JPEG files -- all in nearly 200 MB, found only through Avast Clean-up. This really stinks. I hope the company fires all the programmers involved in this project.
Zinio was great when I first downloaded it. Lots of magazines to choose from, easy to read full screen on my Chromebook (Asus Flip). Every once in a while, though, I would open in tablet mode and there would be no way to resize it to full screen -- the little "box" to make it full size just disappears from the tool bar for some reason. At first I could just restart the app and the problem would be gone... but for the last two weeks it seems to be permanently stuck in this tiny rectangle in the middle of my screen ... I can scroll through it, but it basically renders all magazines unreadable, thereby making this app completely useless.
This app was great when I first registered. Was able to down load and read magazines offline. I'm now unable to do this. I've a number of magazine on my tab that I like to go back and read but I am no longer able to access them via the app. I now have to use other means to access them. Please fix
Zinio for libraries used to work OK on my tablet. Now I am unable to read magazines on my tablet nor am I able to download them to the tablet. My use of Zinio is to read magazines when I am not connected to the internet. I have uninstalled Zinio from my tablet and have recommended to my library that they find another vendor whose application allows me to download magazines to my tablet for off-line reading, and is reasonably easy to use. Using Zinio on my phone seems to allow downloads etc. However, I do not like reading a magazine on that small screen, and Zinio will be using a significantly large part of my limited device storage because Zinio does not allow storage on an SD card. My recommendation to my library stands as above.
I like the app and it works well for me but be aware that when you delete a magazine it keeps a thumbnail image of that magazine on your device that enables you to restore the magazine if you wish. The problem is it keeps it forever, their tech support tells me you cant delete it - ever. Yes if you get through a lot of magazines you build ups masses of these all taking up possibly valuable space. If you delete them they come back, if you uninstall and re-install they all come back. Great isn't it!
Works well when it works. But frequently hangs when trying to load a magazine. Reseting my device sometimes resolves this.
It doesn't work consistently, every so often it signs me out for some reason, like today-- and today it also just stalls after I enter my username to sign in again. SO FRUSTRATING PLEASE FIX.
Does not save files so everytime you want to read an article you have to download it again.
The features of the regular Zinio app are better for managing library collections and issues and it works just as easily. Plus you can access the issues you do but and the free monthly article samples are an additional bonus. Don't bother with this version.
Pretty good when it works, but buggy. As others have noted, no save to SD card. Prone to freezing and crashing. Sometimes difficult to save mags, or they get hung up while downloading.
This app is a total joke. The only reason I got it was to download magazines from the library, obviously. But straightforward tasks like downloading or deleting magazines appears like the equivalent of sending humans to Mars. Please, Libraries SA, find someone else to manage this task, because Zinio are a total FAIL.
App is still the worst I have installed..constant hangs..page scroll in library is slow..takes multiple attempts to simply download a mag. Appalling app. Intel atom based tablet Android 5.1
It doesn't seem to work. I can checkout my magazine but then nothing shows up in the reading view
Nice immersion into public library system, I like the read mode( gets rid of pictures/ ads). Just with I could manage the rentals through the app vsv using an entirely different app to check out ( RB digital). I think, though, that's a licensing issue.
This worked for about a month, then I was ask to login. Will not accept my login or accept my card # or let me login in any way.
Has potential but is let down by being quirky, often misbehaving & no save to SDCARD. Tip: clear all data and start again to sort things out as a last resort.
Still rubbish surprised Zinio is still in business any other firm would be closed down. still the shareholders must be laughing all the way to the bank. I would not I would not like my name linked to this Firm.
On a phone, there is an option to display a plain text version of articles. On a tablet with the exact same publications, that option doesn't exist.
Awful Android app - crashes nearly always upon opening a publication. Gives a bad name to libraries. Sorry B&N left that market. Recorded Books oughta be ashamed.
I love being able to read magazines on my device for free. No time limits. I wish there as an invert colour option as I like to read in bed when I can't sleep and the white background isnt optimal.
Works sufficiently well enough to merit 4 stars. Will only show those magazines that are carried by your library. Login with your library account and enjoy reading. Text only reading mode is a big bonus. However I would love to see external memory card saving option and horizontal scrolling in future updates.
As others have said the login functionality is buggy. When the app works it's great and intuitive. Android supports SD so why not have the option to save their to save precious local storage space.
I have over 400 deleted magazines that show up when I open the app. Even after manually deleting them 1 at a time, they reappear the next time I open the app. There is no setting that I can find to just display the downloaded magazines like in the "not for library" version of zinio.
This app is so cool yo use, a little difficult but worth it
