Is so wholesome it fits all my needs of playing most VGMs in their original file formats. Somehow Yoshi's Story music doesn't work, I have a few issues while playing vgm and vgz due to lack of sound chip support (for example the Sega CD bios music) and I wish more file formats, including modern file formats (at least from around the Wii era), are supported, but overall it really rocks for me.
Great music app. Plays almost everything under the sun. I wish more of the JoshW sites were listed. I have a list of known sites if you need them. Using libraries from vgmstream and game_music_emu might help with a lot of the oddball formats. Edit: Almost 2 years later, vgmstream is added. I gratefully thank you for this. My phone is out of space on internal storage. Can you add an option in preferences for the data directory please? I would like to have data on external storage uSD. Thank you.
Very good app for chiptune but I have one issue with creating ringtones, the notification says it's making the ringtone and then says it has no access to something, but it cuts off, anyway I could fix this? Any help would be much appreciated
This is an amazing app! Thank you so much for this. It's truly the one app that keeps me on Android. Whatever format I throw at it, it just seems to work. Just one thing: I wish to export some files to MP3 so that I can use them as my alarm clock tone. Is there an easier way of doing that? The set as ringtone function just allows me to set it as my calling ringtone. Edit: On a OnePlus 8 Pro. I've used this a lot on the 3T and 5 and the Poco F1. Works like a charm.
Amazing app, if I had one kvetch it would be that the UI is slightly counterintuitive. You can save playlists from any tab (since the top never changes and has a Playlist menu) but the Load option is not on that menu, so it looks like you can only Save, Clear, Sort or check the stats. I think this is to save duplication of functionality because you can find your playlists in the browser in the rightmost tab, but it's easy to miss there, especially if you already dug into a music source folder.
This is definitely a solid media app all around. The range of supported formats is great. My one constructive critique would be a more user friendly UI. Loading up playlists or accessing the root music folder is cumbersome, and requires lots of digging around in the app. As a man on the go, I want to be able to start the app, choose a playlist, hit play, and be off. So- a root folder at the start screen, or a menu of available playlists in the playlist section would go a long way!
Update: I was initially confused by the UI, couldnt figure out how to play local files. Turns out I'm dumb and it was in the Browser section amongst online resources. It's true the UI is a bit minimalist, particularly if you want to treat it as a local music player (playlists are a bit awkward, no auto-library functionality). If I could add one thing it would be handling "Open With" intents for all supported file types (.NSF missing at least). But overall it's solid. Thanks!!
By far the best app I've seen for playing chiptunes and game music! Lots of features and handles practically everything. It being FOSS is a big plus too! I'd like the ability to edit the representation of the metadata - the metadata seems to only send the song name (not the game it's from) to Last.fm. I'm not sure whether that's a request for this app or their app, though.
Plays very much all Chiptune formats and includes a library which is great. No AD's or In-App Purchases. Interface could be better. Don't like that it seems to drain the battery slightly faster than a regular music app. Otherwise it's great. Update: thanks to the developer for reply. I understand formats with sound samples and CPU/DSP like SNES or N64 are more emulation intensive, but PSG like NES or GB should use less, I gess? I like the app, its great anyway! Just plug in to the wall.
Pretty good app. Probably the only dedicated tracker module player on mobile. However, it fails to accurately reproduce the sounds on some complex modules. Also there's no way to change the resampling method so some modules sounds a bit griddy. Otherwise, I'd say this is a very solid experience for me overall.
Love this app, makes listening to retro music a super easy task with it's built it browse function and broad support for all popular media formats. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I had a number of Atari and Commodore computers, it still amazes me the brilliant creativity that went into making so many of these songs on the limited sound hardware of the time.
An absolute beast of a developer and program, integrates with virtually every module format ever, great playback quality, open source, cross-platform and the developer responds to every rating, this program is unmatched in my book for sure! Oh and also i would absolutely love a search feature in the playlist section if possible, thanks again for making this!
Very great app, but i have a few issues: 1. Please make the playlist scroll bar larger. It's way too small to use properly. 2. I really wish it didn't take so long to play some formats, especially PSF and the like. Also, not really a big issue, but i find it very odd that this is rated M by the ESRB. There's no content in the app itself to warrant a rating like that aside from maybe some song names in online catalogs, which are completely out of the developer's control.
Awesome app! I only have a few issues with it. 1: When my phone is on sleep, and moves on to a NoiseTracker song for example, it does not play, and is acting strangely when i open my phone. Seems like it is playing the same song it just played again, but with no sound. (Setup: "Sutte Hakkun, unused song 1.spc" -> "CHIPTUNE" by 4-mat). This does not happen if the phone stays open. And 2: "Conker's Bad Fur Day" miniUSF wont play at all. Timer is moving, but no audio is happening.
Stumbling on this app is honestly a real life saver (the program i previously used started supporting nfts), I can actually navigate and easily set up the player to exactly what I need, and it works beautifully. On thing that would make this better is a converter of some kind, but there's no telling how hard that could be.
