Punnett Calc

Punnett Calc is a genetics calculator that determines all the possible genotypes and phenotypes that can be produced from two given parent genotypes (up to five genes in length). Punnett Calc also calculates the probability of producing individual genotypes, phenotypes, and respective ratios (absence of gene linkage assumed).

Punnett Calc supports the entry of alleles (from left to right) specified by one or two letters/digits. In the case where only two alleles for a given locus are present in both parents, alleles may be specified using the upper and lower case forms of any letter (ex. Parent 1: "Aa", Parent 2: "aa"). In the case where more than two alleles for a given locus are present in both parents, alleles may be specified using any pair of letters/numbers (ex. Parent 1: "C1C2", Parent 2: "C1C3") or individual letters (ex. Parent 1: "A0", Parent 2: "B0"). Locus alleles must be specified using either single letters/numbers or pairs of letters/numbers (ex. valid: X2Y0, invalid: X2Y).

Genotype Mode:

Only parent genotypes are entered. Results include all possible genotypes and the probability of producing each (independent of phenotype).

Phenotype Mode:

Pushing the buttons below each gene pair reveals a punnett square that reflects the results of a monohybrid cross. Mode of inheritance (recessive, dominant, co-dominant, incomplete dominant, sex-linked) is specified by color coding the four possible outcomes of each gene pair via tapping the individual quadrant buttons. Outcomes with like colors are calculated as like phenotypes. Results include the probability of producing each phenotype (green heading), along with color coded genotypes and their respective probability.

Punnett Calc is an essential tool for educators, students, and professionals working in science or medical fields.
