What's My Tick

This app uses image recognition, specifically a convolutional neural network, to aid in tick identification. The app analyzes the image of your tick and uses your location to rank the ticks with diseases in your area. You are presented with the possible ticks ranked by the image recognition system. If the image recognition system doesn't recognize a tick in your image, it will only present possible ticks based on your location. For help identifying your tick from the possible ticks, look in the 'Learn' section in the app to know what features to look for.

There are hundreds of tick species, but very few are known to carry diseases. The app only identifies ticks with known diseases. The image recognition system was not trained on engorged ticks since they tend to look very similar, meaning it can't accurately rank engorged ticks. Your location can still be used to help you identify an engorged tick, however. If you find an engorged tick on you, it is recommended that you visit your doctor as antibiotics are usually given as a precaution.

This app was not made by a medical professional and all information should not be taken as medical advice. Most of the information was taken from the CDC. The 'risk of contraction' section is based on estimates and information gathered from the CDC. The app is intended to inform you about ticks and the diseases they can carry, not to predict if you will or will not contract a disease from a tick.
